Episode 23: From Low Brow to High Brow – Dysfunctional Family Films | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:21:49

The moment has finally arrived! After a re-formatting transition that was tested by no less than the wrath of god (in the form of that power-robbing wench Sandy), we’re pleased to announce that we’ve emerged triumphant, like a gang of viking warriors. The spoils of our battle are here in the form of Episode 23, the first show in our new format. Check out our new duds! We kick things off with our new release review of the 2011 comedy THIRTY MINUTES OR LESS. Tom introduces the film with a passion that Jenna calls “incendiary.” Indeed, our fearless leader comes out with guns a blazing. Look out! Before we get to the heart of the matter, we have a talk with comedienne Helene Angley. Our little discussion covers liquid pearls, teen angst, interracial love, marital contempt and all sorts of other stuff. Tom calls the shots this time around and he throws at us a couple of films involving ‘Dysfunctional Families’ (what better way to spend Thanksgiving?). We cover Robert Redford’s 1980 academy award-winning film, ORDINARY PEOPLE and Noah Baumbach’s indie darling, THE SQUID AND THE WHALE from 2005. Speaking of THE SQUID AND THE WHALE, we’re privileged to have one of the co-stars of that film, actress Halley Feiffer, at our table. Halley gives us some insight into her career, what it was like working with the cast and crew of Squid, and she even shows off some pretty nifty footwork as she dodges some of Max’s more “intimate” questions. This show is stuffed with goodies so grab a leg or a breast or whatever else turns you on, kick back, and chew the fat with The Cutting Room. Gobble, gobble, gang.  Mini-Episode 01: Sandy Kicks the Shit Out of the Cutting Room | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 0:42:10

We’re glad to see you here! But unfortunately Hurricane Sandy has taken her toll on the Cutting Room and we’re still scrambling to get our heads above water, so to speak. We’re all ok, but… It means that the release of the official first show in its new incarnation is going to be delayed just a bit longer. We are on target to bring you our re-imagining, our grand re-opening on Thursday Nov 22nd. In the meantime, Joe and Max were able to get together to hash things out and offer a bit of explanation about what’s been happening with the east coast faction of the show. They even manage to talk a bit about Tim Burton’s latest effort, FRANKENWEENIE. As a consolation prize, in lieu of freshly cut content, we re-issue a few of our archived reviews: Val Lewton’s CAT PEOPLE, 2011′s KIDNAPPED, and George A. Romero’s DAWN OF THE DEAD. Thanks for checking in, gang, and remember what they say: the best things are worth waiting for. Quick Subscription Links: iTunes | RSS | Email | Website

The Cutting Room 021: We Say Goodbye To Horror Palace with Special Guest Michael Berryman | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 4:37:20

Ah, parting is such sweet sorrow. Friends, Romans, Countrymen, we’ve had a mercurial dash across the horror podcast universe, scorching the sky like a blood-soaked meteor, but, alas, the time has come for us to part from this, the #1 horror review network on the planet. Foolhardy? Perhaps. Ballsy? Undoubtedly. But we part with fond farewells. Indeed, we’ve loved each and every minute that we’ve been here and wouldn’t trade our trials and tribulations for the world. And before we go, as you might expect from us here at The Cutting Room, we leave you Horror Palace tenants with catharsis, epiphany, and fireworks. Gang, it’s one hell of an ending. We go out with a bang. One of the biggest horror icons of modern horror, Michael Berryman stops in The Cutting Room and talks with us about his historic career. We discovered Michael to be artistic, passionate, articulate, and kind. By all accounts a truly beautiful human being. In addition to a great legend of horror, this show also features a veritable parade of guests. Marching down Main Street and stopping into The Cutting Room are: Dave Pace of Fangoria Magazine, HellHunter from Terror Troop, BillChete from Grisly Zone, and our old friend and fellow founding member, The Evil Reverend Billy Grim. We laugh… we cry… Max peed his pants once, I think. And, oh, did we forget to mention that we review four films here as well? Well, we do and we do it as only The Cutters know how. Our theme this episode is ‘The First Film that Scared the Hell out of Us’ and we cover Cronenberg’s RABID, Wise’s THE HAUNTING, THE MAN WHO SAW TOMORROW, and WOLFEN. Thanks to all of our listeners here on Horror Palace, and especially thanks to Bill Chete who got us into this mess to begin with (kidding, Bill. We love you and can’t wait to have you on our new revamped show). Anyhoo, every ending is a new beginning, as the feller says, and we hope that you guys come along with us into our new general movie format incarnation. You’ll have to re-link and re-subscribe.
