 ARP 055P2 – Optics, a Different Perspective Part 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:29:39

Choosing my Own AR Optic So, I promised how I picked my last AR scope.  First I watch NutNFancy's video on AR-15 scopes.   First, the gun is a self built AR-15 with a 17" A2 profile rifle gas barrel, rifle quad tube, Vltor EMOD, etc.  So, I wanted a...

 ARP 054 – Training with the USMC | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:19:32

Reed and Louis Discuss the state of Marine Corps firearms instruction Welcome to Episode #054 of the AR15 Podcast.  I’m your host Reed Snyder and with us is my special guest Sergeant Louis, a Marine Corps combat marksmanship coach. This is the podcast about your favorite black rifle!  This show is for you; whether you're building your first AR or you’ve been building ARs for years. There is something we can all do to take our black rifle to the next level. Otis Ripcord Giveaway For times in the field when you just can’t reach your Otis cleaning system and need a quick and effective clean – reach for the Ripcord®. This convenient tool cleans from Breech-to-Muzzle® in one quick and easy pass. The molded rubberized core and Nomex® fibers together create a more effective way to trap and remove fouling. Winner: Dan M.  Hi Reed and Tony,  Great job on the podcast! You have helped me through 2 builds now -- one is a standard 16 inch "maneuverable" frankenrifle and the other a 20 inch heavy barrel for longer range plinking. Please enter me in the Otis  ripcord giveaway. I enjoyed your scope episode, as it explained many differences among scopes. However, there's this nagging question in my mind. Is it implicitly stated that if you are using a scope for long range shooting or sighting in, then you are also trying keep things steady? I don't even try to sight in without a table, chair, and some bags or something to support the rifle.  Now once things are sighted in sufficiently, then I can try to see how good I am with hand holding or different stances. Main Topic: USMC Firearms Training Listener Feedback: Grant C:  Guys, You're killing me!! Yawl increased the size of some of your podcast so I can no longer burn them to CD to listen to them in my truck back and forth to work. I’m not much of an ITunes guy so I roll old school, can you hook it and post as a part A & B if it goes over 70 minutes? That would be awesome!!! I love the information I get from your show as I always get a gem or two every time I listen.  I am making my wish list for my 300 blackout build and am wondering if there are any pitfalls or optimal configuration I should look out for or consider. IE. gas system lengths, buffer/spring weight, twist rates. I see you have a show on reloading the 223 (I still have to listen to it from my computer, to big to burn), how about one on reloading 300 AAC Blackout!!! It seems to be the latest and greatest round, a little expensive and hard to find though. I have read where you can make your own 300 AAC out of 223 brass and 30 cal bullets. Any recommendations, tricks or tips? Thank you Gentleman. Greg P:  Excellent Podcasts! I was listening to episode 14 for a second time. This episode talked about what to buy and where to buy AR parts. AR parts are built to a pretty tight specification. If one buys Mil Spec parts and installs them correctly there is a pretty good chance that everything will work Right? I’ve just completed my first build.

Winner: Eric C:  Reloading the 223 podcast...First and foremost love this podcast... I'm new to the AR 15/Black Rifle... They are like a incurable disease, I'm working on building my first but have plans/dreams for at least two more... As far as a dream build, I don't have one currently... As far as the reloading podcast, you mentioned single stage presses and a slight mention to progressive presses but left out the turret presses... For the speed and ease the progressive press is the way to go but there are many fine adjustments to get it to run smoothly... The turret press offers ease and some what faster reloading without the adjustments... I use the Lee turret press which works great... I went with the turret because it was only a few more dollars they the single stage... Just food for thought for people looking to hand loading... Keep up the great work.... I would like to be entered in the Otis drawing... Thank you,   Brownells helps make this show possible. I wanted to show off the progress of my first time build. It is not complete, but the hard parts are done. I am waiting for the buffer components and front end components. So far, it is going very well.  I am amazed just how simple these things are under the hood.   Alex - St. Louis:  I was listening to one of the podcasts where the RCBS entry-level scale was called "junk."  I have to disagree.  Sure I would like a nicer one but to called this junk is not accurate.  This one has served me well for years.  Are there better ones?  sure but to call this one junk is simply not accurate.  In fact your attitude towards the scale was downright snobby.  Otherwise I love the show and I would love it if you would do more on reloading.   Merry Christmas! Louie:  Please work on pronouncing these 3 words: 1) Corps...the p is silent. Only Obama says it like you 2) Carbine...it is like CARBEEN 3) Leupold...It is like LOOPOLD. Winner: Mike in Columbus GA, Reed and Tony and everyone at the FRN...thanks for the outlet and platform that you guys have here. I have bought my 1st AR(a DPMS AP4) since listening and I plan on buying a stripped lower and building my own AR and the information you guys have presented has very useful; where to get parts, what types of parts are available, procedures and etc... the only thing that I have a problem with is the word "gun"... its sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard to me....I'm pretty sure Reed knows to what I'm referring to and I do understand why another word is not used... but try and use the term "rifle" more often...and please enter me in the Otis give-away please… Thanks   Brownells helps make this show possible. Shop for AR-15 parts at Brownells.  Go to: ar15podcast.com/ar15parts   Reloading Tip of the Week:  Working up a basic handload recipe.   Take your starting and your maximum  powder charges for a given powder.  Devise a  progression from the start to the maximum which allows for five charge variations for that recipe.  Load a number of rounds for each powder charge in the progression. Test at the range starting with the lightest load and progress through the five levels you have loaded.  Take notes and observe the performance of each load in the progression.  Mark the load you are most satisfied with and if necessary begin again with a smaller incremental change in powder charges for a new progression which is based on the chosen load.  Otherwise, reload at your leisure and fire for effect.   Main Topic: Guide to reloading .223 and 5.56 for your AR-15. Thank you, Rob:  Hi, Love the podcast!!  Perhaps I've missed it. Have you discussed the pros & cons of having vs not having the A-frame front sight? Do custom AR builders still use the A-frame front sight? Also, have you discussed......do I really need a piston driven AR? Have ya done a piston show?  Thanks.....Tom:  Really enjoy the podcast, and look forward to it each week. Before I forget, please enter me in the contest for the new Otis Ripcord. My question is in regard the the Magpul PMAG. I have noticed that they no longer come with the dustcover, as do previous iterations. Is this proof that the feed lips are strong enough to function without protection, or primarily a cost savings for Magpul? I notice that the dust covers are available as a separate option, would I want some for long term storage on a loaded magazine Thanks in advance for your answer, and please keep up the good work.  thanks Craig:  Hey Guys.  long time listener. First time writing in. After listening to the hunting episode. I was thinking. Scary as it is. Thanks to you guys, I built a couple of ARs in the last year or so. And one was a 300 blackout. What do you guys think about hunting , whitetail deer, with a 300 blackout. I read a bunch of threads on forums. Just wanted to know what you thought. Any input would be great. Thanks. O and could you ever do a daily podcast. Joke. I love the show. And can't wait for the next episode. Could you enter me in the Otis giveaway too. Thanks  David D:  Hi Reed and Tony,
