The other night while munching on a delicious after dinner cookie I broke off a small piece of the delicious pre-dessert snack and offered it to one of my kids. She happily took the morsel and headed off. Soon her sister approached my and I once again broke off a small part of the cookie to offer her. Instead of taking the small portion that was offered to her, my youngest girl reached for the bigger piece of cookie which I had intended to eat myself. It got me thinking about how and why I respond to people or situations that require me to sacrifice beyond what I intended to share.
