This peaceful forest along the Dart River was the location of several scenes from ‘The Lord of the Rings’ - ‘Isengard’, ‘Lothlorien’ and ‘Amon Hen’.
South Island, New Zealand 5.04pm Season: Winter Temperature: 10ºC, 50ºF Elevation: 318m, 1043ft Barometric Pressure: 1000.1 hPa GPS: S45º 02’ 09.5”, E168º 39’ 05.4” Directions: From Queenstown walk around the right hand side of Lake Wakatipu along Beach Street, which becomes Lake Esplanade. There are fantastic views of the mountains emerging from the Lake.
Macedon Ranges, Victoria 5.04pm Season: Summer Temperature: 42ºC, 108ºF Elevation: 728m, 2388ft Barometric Pressure: 1014.6 hPa GPS: S37º 19’ 47.0”, E144º 35’ 37.1” Directions: Head towards Woodend and then follow the signs to Hanging Rock. There is a small entry fee collected to pay for the care and maintenance of the reserve - it currently receives no government funding.
Sydney, Australia 2.10pm Season: Autumn Temperature: 18ºC, 64ºF Elevation: 5m, 16ft Barometric Pressure: 1021.7 hPa GPS: S33º 54’ 55.9”, E151º 16’ 03.9” Directions: From central Sydney drive east up Oxford Street, turning right onto Flinders which becomes Anzac Parade. From Anzac Parade turn left onto Alison Road, then left onto Darley Road and right onto Clovelly Road. Follow as far as you can go and park in the carpark at the end.
Lorne, Victoria, Australia 2.22pm Season: Summer Temperature: 28ºC, 82ºF Elevation: 276m, 906ft Barometric Pressure: 1016 hPa GPS: S38º 30’ 27.7”, E143º 54’ 53.1” Directions: The Erskine Falls are located 10km north east of Lorne. Follow Erskine Falls Road to the end and park in the area provided. Walk down the steep steps to the base of the waterfall.
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand 9.43am Season: Winter Temperature: 6ºC, 43ºF Elevation: 881m, 2890ft Barometric Pressure: 1003.4 hPa GPS: S44º 56’ 27.7”, E168º 42’ 54.6” Directions: From Queenstown take Gorge Rd past Arthurs Point and follow the signs to Coronet Peak (approx. 5 - 10 mins drive). You can’t miss the spectacular views across the valley to the Remarkables mountain range.
Great Ocean Road, Shipwreck Coast, Victoria, Australia 11.28pm Season: Summer Temperature: 21ºC, 70ºF Elevation: 40m, 131ft Barometric Pressure: 1018.3 hPa GPS: S38º 38’ 52.6”, E143º 04’ 21.5” Directions: From Port Campbell drive east for approx. 5 minutes. Follow signs to the Loch Ard Gorge. Once at the carpark you will see a walking track. The walking track is an easy 1km stroll past a number of scenic locations including this view of the magnificent island archway in the Gorge.
Mutton Bird Island, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia 10:13am Season: Summer Temperature: 22ºC, 72ºF Elevation: 5m, 16ft Barometric Pressure: 1017.8 hPa GPS: S38º 38’ 38.0”, E143º 03’ 22.5” Directions: From Port Campbell drive east for approx. 5 minutes. Follow signs to the Loch Ard Gorge. Once at the carpark you will see a walking track. The walking track is an easy 1km stroll past a number of scenic locations including this view of Mutton Bird Island.
Lake Alexandrina, Mackenzie Basin, South Island 4:35pm Season: Winter Temperature: 12ºC, 54ºF Elevation: 716m, 2349ft Barometric Pressure: 1014.3 hPa GPS: S43º 56’ 10.8”, E170º 27’ 38.7” Directions: Leave Lake Tekapo driving NW, and turn right just out of town when you see the signs to Mt John observatory and Lake Alexandrina. After approx. 6km you will pass the turnoff to Mt John observatory. Keep going and follow the signs to Lake Alexandrina (approx. 7km from Mt John turnoff).

Bannockburn, South Island, New Zealand 1:09pm Season: Winter Temperature: 8ºC, 46ºF Elevation: 252m, 827ft Barometric Pressure: 1006 hPa GPS: S45º 04’ 43.2”, E169º 09’ 21.2” Directions: From Cromwell head towards Bannockburn. Take the first road on the right once you cross the Kawarau River. There are a number of orchards in this area.
Bay of Islands, Shipwreck Coast, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia 5:48pm Season: Summer Temperature: 31ºC, 88ºF Elevation: 29m, 95ft Barometric Pressure: 1003.2 hPa GPS: S38º 35’ 05.7”, E142º 49’ 31.8” Directions: From Port Campbell head west along the Great Ocean Road towards Peterborough - past the Arch, the Grotto and London Bridge. The Bay of Islands lookout is on your left nearly 6km down the road from Peterborough.

2 of the 12 Apostles, Victoria, Australia 8:31pm Season: Summer Temperature: 21ºC, 70ºF Elevation: 70m, 230ft Barometric Pressure: 1015.5 hPa Heading: E GPS: S38º 39’ 57.3”, E143º 06’ 16.4” Directions: From Port Campbell drive east for approx. 10 minutes. Follow signs to the 12 Apostles. Once at the carpark you will see the path under the road to the viewing area. The Apostles are limestone stacks created by the erosion of the cliff face by the relentless Southern Ocean.
