In Between Sundays – A podcast for young adults.

Summary: In Between Sundays is a podcast that gives you the essentials to live in the world outside of church. Being people of faith requires more than just one hour on Sunday, and we know that we’re not the only ones who believe that. We talk about life as Catholic young adults, ways to grow in faith including specific prayers, websites to visit and practices. We want to help you become the best person you can be, by helping you develop your body, mind, soul and emotions. Feedback line: +1.206.337.7945 www.inbetweensundays.com

 Episode #13 – Spirit & Truth and Technical Difficulties | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 35:50

BTS #13 is jam packed! We discuss superstitions, we share a what’s my line and we debut a new segment called Catholics of Caliber where we interview Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis. We start out with our three Js! In our news segment we talk about the new Beloit Mindset List. The list “provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of freshmen students entering college. It is used around the world as the school year begins, as a reminder of the rapidly changing frame of reference for this new generation.” Check out the Beloit Mindset list here. Nick tells us about Nature’s Call, a young adult Labor Day camping trip. This week Nick and his roommate made a Nature’s Call promo video and posted it on YouTube. During the episode, we had some crazy technical difficulties! So in our Help I’m Fallen segment we briefly discuss common superstitions and what we believe about them as Catholics. To hear more, check out episode #666 of the Daily Breakfast, which talks about that topic. Our new segment is called Catholics of Caliber. This month Nick interviews Shelley Fravala of Spirit and Truth in St. Louis. Spirit and Truth is a Catholic ministry whose mission is “to bring young adults into relationship with Christ through worship of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, study of church teachings and sacred scripture and celebrations of Catholic traditions, while forming a community of life-giving relationships.” Young Adults meet for Eucharistic Adoration and fellowship afterwords at a local restaurant. Lastly, we finish up by talking about our fourth Catholic Challenge for the month—learning the Luminous mysteries of the Rosary. Looking ahead at next week’s show, we will check in and see how we’re all doing with our Catholic Challenges (memorizing the mysteries of the Rosary). Have you ever wanted to call into the show but aren’t sure what exactly to call us about? We’ve started a new page on the website where you can go and see the topics where we want to hear from you.  Episode #12 – Kari Kennedy, Live and Unplugged | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:43

In this episode, we have received two new calls for “What’s My Line.” Listen in to see if Pat and Nick can work in the phrases during the show. We also have a guest in the studio, our friend Kari who has graciously taken the time to come play some music for us and talk about her own inspiration for composing. In the news segment, we talk about whether Microsoft can still sell copies of Word, due to a judgment being handed to it in Texas. We also found a blog that asks what the Bible would be like if it was sent out over Twitter. For our Help I’m Fallen segment, we explain the practice of devotions, including a few saints and their devotions. We talk about our own favorite devotions, including the rosary and the divine mercy chaplet. Nick quizzes Kari to see if she can correctly identify four movies in the Chick Flick or Horror Film segment. How does she do? Listen in to find out. Finally, Kari plays some of her music for us and talks about her favorite song and what inspires her to compose music. She mentions that some of her music comes from the times in her life when big things happen. Listen in to hear some great music from the heart. Looking ahead at next week’s show, we have an interview with an organization that helps young adults put together adoration nights and discuss their faith in a community setting. Additionally, we are joined by a special guest, Micless Mike, who is sitting in on our show to figure out how to create a podcast of his own. Afterwards, we invite you to call us with your feedback at +1.206.337.7945. Do you happen to have music in your iTunes library that you listen to but your friends would totally make fun of you for having? It turns out that we do, too. In our “Stuff We Like” segment, we share some music that we still have in our iTunes library that is slightly embarassing. Additionally, we offer some explanations (or excuses) as to why we still have that music. We have some great feedback from our friend Sarah and Mary along with a new promo for a show being put together by Deacon Tom called “Catholic Vitamins.” Look for Deacon Tom’s new show starting in September. We have made it to our tenth episode! In honor of this special show, we met with Paul Camarata of the Saintcast and Fr. Seraphim Beshoner of Catholic Under the Hood on the Plaza in Kansas City. Both of them have fantastic podcasts and we really appreciate the time they took to record an episode with us. In this episode, we have a “What’s My Line?” comment from our friend, Victoria, who we met at the Catholic New Media Celebration in San Antonio, TX. During the news segment, we talk about Pope Benedict XVI’s broken wrist and his summer location at Castel Gandalfo. Additionally, how much do you owe on your credit card bill? Pat finds an interesting story about someone whose bill was enormously large. This week, for our “Help, I’m Fallen” segment, we tackle the problem of healthcare in the United States: What should be done, how does it relate to the dignity of life, and what are the moral decisions behind providing everyone in the United States with access to healthcare. Finally, we quiz our guests to see whether they can correctly identify some chick flicks or some horror films. Listen in and see if you can get all the answers correct.  Episode #8 – Suits and Sacraments | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:40

In this episode, we talk about our initial impressions of the Harry Potter movie. We did stay up late to see the premier showing at midnight. Along with our brief review, we invite our listeners to join us at the Nature’s Call campout at Lake Pomme de Terre over Labor Day weekend. We continue our discussion about religion in the workplace and have two guests, Nick’s old roommate, Gerard and Steve Nelson from the On The U podcast. The discussion involves how to talk with people who present ideas about your faith that are wrong, praying in a public place and how to know if someone at work is interested in having a talk about faith. In honor of our guests, we have a special edition of “Chick Flick or Horror Film,” and quiz our guests on three films. See if you can get all three identified correctly. Lastly join our online discussion on our Facebook fan page. Nota Bene: We did not get a chance to work in the “What’s my Line” suggestion. We will have it in the next episode.  Episode #7 – Religion in the Workplace | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 31:32

In this episode, we talk about upcoming events for young adults, including two Labor Day weekend events: Catholic Thrive in New York and Nature’s Call in Kansas City. They also briefly discuss Pope Benedict XVI’s new encyclical, “Caritas in Veritate.” In the “Stuff we like” segment, we list a few of our favorite podcasts, Busted Halo, This American Life, On the U and the Daily Breakfast. These are podcasts that we find really fascinating and think that you will, too. Nick decides to quiz Pat on his knowledge of movies in a segment called “Horror Film or Chick Flick?” Did you ever realize that the names of horror films and chick flicks sound very similar? Nick gives some examples along with the movie synopsis and asks Pat to figure out into which genre the movie belongs. Finally, we start a discussion about religion in the workplace. As youth, we were very involved in a youth group and because of that, our willingness to talk about our faith has carried over into our lives today. However, we have found that at our jobs, some people are not as open and candid with their faith as we expected. Have you found yourself in a similar situation? We would like to hear about it.  Episode #6 – Sno-Cones & the Catholic New Media Conference | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 30:21

In this episode, we have two people who called in to give us “What’s My Line” suggestions. Can we work their phrases into the show? The previous weekend, Pat and Nick were in San Antonio for the Catholic New Media Conference and visited the Alamo. While there, we pose the question: “Davy Crockett or Chuck Norris, who would win?” Pat talks to a sno-cone vendor who has penguins on her cart. How often do you work to listen to God during the week? In our Help, I’m Fallen segment, we talk about how praying is not a one way street and then challenge people to spend some time in Eucharistic Adoration this week. We wrap up the show with an interview with Nicholas of the Catholic Company, one of the sponsors of CNMC ’09 and a piece of feedback we received about our mention of Getting Things Done, by David Allen. On our future show, we will be talking about discussing religion in the workplace.  Episode #5 – Fathers Day Special | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 37:38

Fathers Day is Sunday, June 21 so we have compiled this special episode in honor of dads everywhere. In this episode, we talk about the “three J’s” meaning Junk, Joy and Jesus and how we can use that model to evaluate what has been going on in our lives. Pat talks about how he feels like he’s been way too busy and needs to find an organizational system in order to keep everything straight. We talk about some of the books that we have read that help people to learn about organization and planning, including Getting Things Done and Bit Literacy. We finally have a feedback line and for this show asked people to call in and give us their favorite memories of their own dad. We received a few submissions and play them throughout the show. Finally, we issue a special Catholic Challenge for Father’s day, asking people to spend time with their dad and to pray for him. We conclude the show with an interview with Nick and Pat’s brother Brian and their father about their own family traditions and special things they did with their dad growing up.  Episode #4 – Driftwood | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 36:20

In this week’s episode, we are starting a new competition called “What’s My Line,” a chance for listeners to send us feedback and challenge us to work wacky lines into our podcast. Pat got this idea from a priest in college, who would often do a similar thing to help people pay better attention to the homily. Second, we survey ourselves and see how we have been doing with our Catholic Challenge. In previous episodes, we talked about praying novenas and our goals to get in shape. We have both done a good job with one of the two challenges. Can you match the challenge to the host? In our Help, I’m Fallen segment, we address what happens when your friends come back from college and seem to have lost their faith. Nick sits down with two of his friends, who talk about their own experiences with freedom and faith in college. Finally, the pope on an iPhone? Is it True? We discuss the news of the week, including the Year for Priests, which starts on Friday, June 12, 2009. Along with declaring this a year for priests, Pope Benedict XVI declared St. John Vianney as the patron saint of priests throughout the world. In addition to all this, Pope Benedict has started a new website to embrace new media and calls for all Catholics to use this medium to share the faith.
