Subscribe at  iTunes   "The Children's Crusade" - Simulcast with Jason & Natalie Pyles The Engineer and I were invited as guests on the Podcasting Revolution - a fan-cast about Revolution produces by Jason & Natalie Pyles.  We decided to do a "Simulcast" as we talk about this week's episode - The Children's Crusade. Thanks for Jason's and Natalie's generous invitation - Go check out their podcast over at Podcasting Revolution We also talk about what an EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) is and how it could take our grid down nationwide.  We discuss how quick society can go down hill without power.   Victims of Superstorm Sandy have figured out quickly how dangerous it can become with no power, no food and scant police protection.  There are several areas where citizens are arming themselves and hunkering down as roving bands pose as Utility workers. There has been reporting of "dumpster-diving" for food just 3 days after Sandy.  We discuss the similar outcome of an EMP but with no hope of the power coming back on within a year of the event. The Engineer referenced this 2008 Commission on EMP report. We discussed the Carrington Event - an insightful book called 'The Sun King" about Here's "The Sun Kings:  The Unexpected Tragedy of Richard Carrington and the Tale of How Modern Astronomy Began" The author's site for the book is Stuart Clark Learn about a world-wide event in 1859 called the Carrington Event - if this size event were occur today the entire globe could be in danger of losing electric power. There are natural sun-cycles that indicate we are overdue for another Sun-caused event 

With the aftermath of Super-storm Sandy, we thought it would be appropriate to discuss what does happen when the lights go out and how do you prepare for it?  Steven has been teaching folks for years about how to think ahead and do some inexpensive common-sense tactics that could make a great deal of difference for your well being.  When you lose power how do you keep your food from spoiling, what preventive measures can you take so that you don’t get cold or too hot?  How can you feed all of your neighbors for only $82?  Can you really power your vital household items with just your car?  You bet! What not to do and how to reduce your risk of injury and misery when you are faced with a storm like Sandy. Revolution is a fictional tale but we don’t have to lose power across the entire world to get a taste of what life would be like.  Steven opened our eyes to many possibilities. If you have family or friends who are still without power – let them know about Steven’s technique of powering your home from your car. Steven opened our eyes to many possibilities.
