Rooster Ra on Swoop’s World Late Night | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 3:12:42

On Wednesday December 11, 2013 at 8pm/PST (10pm/CT, 11pm/ET) we are happy to welcome the band Rooster Ra to Swoop’s World Late Night. Join us as we get to know the band, it’s members, and their music. We are also simulcast by AM1670 – Dewberry Jam Community Radio – San Antonio, TX. Swoop’s World Late Night is on Wednesday’s from 8pm/PST – 11pm/PST tune in at Swoopsworld.com. Rooster Ra Rooster Ra is the Oxnard, CA based trio of Scott Hughes on upright bass/vocals, Ray Waggoner on guitar/vocals and Robert Rachelli on drums/percussion. It’s jazzy instrumentation, but what courses through their combined musicality brings to mind “old, weird America.” It’s a musical style that persists and is inhabited by the likes of Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, and Tom Waits, as well as filmmakers such as Jim Jarmush, Quentin Tarantino and the Coen brothers. There is something vaguely Appalachian – particularly in the duo’s swooning, keening harmonies – albeit filtered through Oxnard, sung from a ditch. ~ Mark McDermott, music journalist

Kim Perez and Danni Rosner on Swoop’s World Late Night | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:46:43

On Wednesday November 13, 2013 at 8pm/PST (10pm/CT, 11pm/ET) we are happy to welcome two guests to Swoop’s World Late Night. First we'll have IFBB female bodybuilder Kim Perez in studio with us. Following Kim's appearance outstanding country recording artist Danni Rosner will be calling in. You're sure to love both of these wonderful women and learning more about them. Kim has competed in many of the most prominent bodybuilding competitions, including Ms. Olympia. Danni has been grabbing the attention of music lovers worldwide. She recently opened for LeAnn Rimes and is truly a Rising Star. Of course we’ll be up to all of our usual fun with our Brewskis beer tasting segment, TBones Timeout, as well as crazy insights into any interesting news stories of the day. We are also simulcast by AM1670 – Dewberry Jam Community Radio – San Antonio, TX. Swoop’s World Late Night is on Wednesday’s from 8pm/PST – 11pm/PST tune in at Swoopsworld.com. Kim Perez Kim's interest in athletics began with gymnastics and ballet at the age of 9. She began running Track and playing Basketball at the age of 12. While attending high school Kim competed on her track and cross-country teams. Her talents earned her a college scholarship and led to collegiate career in track and cheerleading. Kim traveled a path that included modeling, competitive powerlifting, bodybuilding, and eventually earning her pro card. Danni Rosner Danni Rosner is the real deal. Her optimistic, relatable power melodies make her the legit ‘everywoman/it-girl.’ With steal-worthy style and no lack of confidence, Danni is the kind of artist that shines among the masses. Since beginning her career in 2009, Danni has managed to release new music every year while defining a sound that is honest and raw. In June of 2011 Danni packed up her east coast life and relocated to Hollywood, CA – a move that has added notes of warm, sun-kissed homespun freedom to her evolving sound. It’s a sound best exemplified on 2012’s “West,” an album that served as a breath of fresh air in piano-pop’s otherwise stagnant soundscape.   Watch the interview with Kim Perez

Legend of The Crooked Duck As a young boy, Joseph Rooney was told the legend of “the crooked duck” by his uncle at the family’s summerhouse on Island Lake in Illinois. The legend is about a man who accidentally hit a duck while he was out water-skiing on the lake. Everyone on the boat was horrified at what they had just witnessed, and thought for sure he had killed the duck. As everyone sat there staring at the water in disbelief, and what they thought was a dead duck, it started to move.  All of a sudden, it started to swim towards the shore in a very peculiar manner. When it reached the lake’s shore it waddled away, but it was quite obvious the duck’s neck was now crooked. The duck with the crooked neck was seen from time to time by people out on the lake, an acknowledgement to the resilience of a duck. Joey never forgot about the legend or the duck, and “The Crooked Duck” is his tribute to that duck!

Normandie Wilson on Swoop’s World Primetime | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 9:02

On Thursday October 10, 2013 at 11am/PDT (1pm/CDT, 2pm/EDT) We are happy to welcome the return of Normandie Wilson as our guest on Swoop’s World Primetime. It's always a wonderful time when we have the chance to chat with Normandie. She joins us this week having just released her 4th full length album, "Geography and Other Problems." Tune in as we have the opportunity to talk about the new album, hear some new songs, new adventures, and all the cool things she's been up to. Tune in at Swoopsworld.com. Normandie Wilson This is cool, classy jazz music with a touch of pop. The kind of music you hear when you stop in at the lounge on the corner with the guys from work. You're standing at the bar when you hear a gentle voice, as smooth as the fine cognac in your glass, coming from the back room. A dirty-blonde beehive peeks out from behind the piano. You come closer and take a look at the creature whose hands are caressing the ivories; she's dressed in sparkling attire worthy of Christina Hendricks and crooning songs that sound directly lifted from the swinging 60's. Suddenly, you can't stop staring at the drop-dead gorgeous girl with her lips pressed against the microphone. Best to pick up your drink, loosen up your tie, and stop the conversation for a while. If you want to really hear Normandie's soft, smoky alto voice and witty lyrics, you'll have to listen closely. She's frequently compared to modern-day sirens (Becky Stark, Inara George, of Bird and the Bee) and vintage classics (Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Astrud Gilberto). Normandie's sound falls sweetly on the ears of fans of classic 60's pop, lounge, bossa nova, and modern jazz chanteuses like Melody Gardot, Norah Jones, and Diana Krall. "I always had a hard time singing loud, and that used to be a big problem for me. It wasn't until I heard singers like Dionne Warwick, Karen Carpenter, and Astrud Gilberto that I became comfortable with my own voice," she says. Normandie cites the perfect pop music by Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach as her primary influences, as well as songwriters like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Cole Porter, Carole King, Lieber & Stoller, and Holland/Dozier/Holland, along with many unnamed 50's and 60's instrumental pop records taken from the 10-cent bin at the thrift store. "I spent almost every day with my grandparents growing up," she says. "I think the only person I've met who has my taste in music is my 84-year old grandma." So grab a martini, a Mai Tai, or a Gimlet. Kick off your shoes and put the needle on the record. Relax and luxuriate in the luscious, lounge-y sounds of Ms. Normandie Wilson. Sing along if you like, or dance the night away with the date of your choice. One request: keep it classy.
