Sixth Day – True Love is Surrender(http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Mother-Teresa-7-300x236.jpg) Thought for the day: “Allow God to use you without consulting you.” Ask for the grace to surrender your whole life to God. Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, you allowed the thirsting love of Jesus on the Cross to become a living flame within you, and so became the light of His love to all. Obtain from the Heart of Jesus (here make your request). Teach me to allow Jesus to penetrate and possess my whole being so completely that my life, too, may radiate His light and love to others.  September – Our Lady of Sorrows | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 11:56

By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. (http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Seven-Sorrows.jpg)In September, it is Our Lady of Sorrows. The Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows takes place on September 15, the day after the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross. We remember the suffering of Mary as she stood at the foot of the Cross and witnessed the torture and death of her Son.   (http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Seven-Sorrows-1-300x199.jpg)We also are reminded of Simeon's words to Mary (Luke 2:34-35) at the Presentation of the Lord—that a sword would pierce her soul. Some or all of the following prayers can be incorporated into our daily prayers during the Month of Our Lady of Sorrows. Here is a mediation on the Seven Sorrows of  Our Lady that you may wish to join in daily in honor of the Blessed Mother this month...featuring Fr. Mark Cyza and Kris McGregor Also here are other prayers: To the Mother of Sorrows(http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/Our-Lady-of-Sorrows.jpg) Most holy Virgin and Mother, whose soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow in the Passion of thy divine Son, and who in His glorious Resurrection wast filled with never-ending joy at His triumph; obtain for us who call upon thee, so to be partakers in the adversities of Holy Church and the sorrows of the Sovereign Pontiff, as to be found worthy to rejoice with them in the consolation for which we pray, in the charity and peace of the same Christ our Lord. Amen. To Our Lady of Sorrows O most holy Virgin, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ: by the overwhelming grief you experienced when you witnessed the martyrdom, the crucifixion, and death of your divine Son, look upon me with eyes of compassion, and awaken in my heart a tender commiseration for those sufferings, as well as a sincere detestation of my sins, in order that being disengaged from all undue affection for the passing joys of this earth, I may sigh after the eternal Jerusalem, and that henceforward all my thoughts and all my actions may be directed towards this one most desirable object. Honor, glory, and love to our divine Lord Jesus, and to the holy and immaculate Mother of God. Amen. To the Queen of Martyrs Mary, most holy Virgin and Queen of Martyrs, accept the sincere homage of my filial affection. Into thy heart, pierced by so many swords, do thou welcome my poor soul. Receive it as the companion of thy sorrows at the foot of the Cross, on which Jesus died for the redemption of the world. With thee, O sorrowful Virgin, I will gladly suffer all the trials, contradictions, and infirmities which it shall please our Lord to send me. I offer them all to thee in memory of thy sorrows, so that every thought of my mind, and every beat of my heart may be an act of compassion and of love for thee. And do thou, sweet Mother, have pity on me, reconcile me to thy divine Son Jesus, keep me in His grace, and assist me in my last agony, so that I may be able to meet thee in heaven and sing thy glories. Amen.

IP#169 Shannon Dietz on Exposed on Inside the Pages | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 27:09

"Exposed: Inexcusable Me... Irreplaceable Him" by Shannon Dietz is a compelling book which chronicles her experiences growing up (http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/Shannon-Dietz-200x300.jpg)in her devout Catholic home, dealing with realities of brokenness that  results from the assaults that come from the world, from the enemy and from our own negative choices, and the healing that comes from surrendering completely to the love of Jesus Christ.  Shannon shares her story of being raped, not once but twice, and the devastating effect it had on her life and self-image.  She would run from God and her Catholic faith for a time, which only led her to experience a greater period of isolation and despair.  Eventually she turned to Him and found the peace and strength she had been aching for in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.  That moment would provide a powerful encounter of grace and mercy and would set her once again on the path home to the loving embrace of the God the Father.  Her story is one that speaks to the hearts of several generation of women.  A powerful story and witness that there is indeed a beautiful "light at the end of the tunnel". Shannon is the founder of "Hopeful Hearts Ministry (http://www.shannonmdeitz.com/)"...be sure to visit the website (http://www.shannonmdeitz.com/)! It is an important one for young people who are struggling with addiction or abuse and those who question whether God still cares for them." C.A. Webb, President of Conversations Book Club, Host of Conversations Live! "A powerful book that helps us to live a life that is open to receive all that is meant for us." "Shannon's candid sharing will prove to be a blessing to victims and those that care about them." Fr. Gavin Vaverek, Maria Goretti Network

St. Augustine of Hippo, “Late have I loved you” | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 22:34

(http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/mikeaquilina-for-web.jpg) The importance of his life and contribution to the Church cannot be overstated. St. Augustine, one of the greatest of the Church Fathers, has not only influenced the Church, but the thought of the world as we know it.  The story of his conversion as chronicled in his "Confessions", would be (http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/St.-Augustine-177x300.jpg)enough, but then add the body of his theological work and you have nothing less than a glimpse of what is truly the power of  "grace and mercy". Mike Aquilina is one of the best at bringing this great saint's life into perspective.  USCCA19 – The United States Catholic Catechism for Adults with Archbishop George Lucas – Chap. 18 Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation – God is Rich in Mercy | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 28:51

USCCA19 Chapter 18 - The Eucharist: Source and Summit of Christian Life (http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Archbisop-George-Lucas.jpg) Archbishop Lucas offers insights on the US Catholic Catechism for Adults Chapter 18: It is called the Sacrament of Conversion because it makes sacramentally present Jesus’ call to conversion, the first step in returning to the Father from whom one has strayed by sin. It is called the Sacrament of Penance, since it consecrates the Christian sinner’s personal and ecclesial steps of conversion, penance, and satisfaction. It is called the Sacrament of Confession since the disclosure or confession of sins is an essential element of this Sacrament. In a profound sense, it is also a called “confession” —acknowledgment and praise—of the holiness of God and of his mercy toward sinful man. It is called the Sacrament of Forgiveness, since by the priest’s sacramental absolution, God grants the penitent “pardon and peace.” It is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation because it imparts to the sinner the love of God who reconciles: “Be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20). He who lives by God’s merciful love is ready to respond to the Lord’s call: “Go, first be reconciled to your brother.” (CCC, nos. 1423-1424, citing Mt 5:24) The Most Reverend George J. Lucas leads the Archdiocese of Omaha.  For other episodes in the visit our Archbishop George Luca (http://www.discerninghearts.com/?page_id=7136)s page This programs is based on: (http://www.discerninghearts.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/United-States-Catechism-for.jpg) More information can be found here (http://www.usccbpublishing.org/productdetails.cfm?sku=5-450).
