School isn’t just about learning. It also teaches us how to socialize with other people. For some, school is where lifelong passions and interests begin. In the US, most schools offer many different clubs that students can participate in outside of the classroom. For instance, drama club is where students with an interest in acting can practice their acting skills. A ski club might might raise money so its members can take a trip to the slopes.  Brewing Beer (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

If you drink alcohol, you have probably enjoyed a beer in one of its many forms: in the can, bottle, or on tap. In fact, beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage in the world. But where does it come from? Beer is made through a process called brewing. Though the exact science may be over the head of the average person, the basics are pretty simple: cereal grains get converted to sugar, and the sugar is then fermented, with the help of some yeast. Some brewers use hops to add flavor to beer, producing a bitter taste, while others flavor their beer with fruit or other herbs. Lots of the beer you find at the store is produced at huge breweries, but more and more craft brewers are making smaller amounts of beer and paying more attention to detail. There is even a growing homebrewing movement, with people making their own beer in their kitchen or garage. Hear Jason and Marni chat about brewing beer. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Date Night (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

For couples that have been together for a long time, it is easy to get in a rut. When you see your partner every day and develop a routine, you might start to feel that your relationship has lost some of the magic it had in the beginning. Everyday stress from working, raising kids, or going to school can also contribute to your relationship feeling stale. That is what date night is for. A date night is a chance to spend some quality time with your partner and get some romance back into your relationship. Some couples have a regular date night once a week or a couple times a month. Others will take any opportunity they can to go out and enjoy a fun, romantic night together. But it is also possible to get in a rut with your date night. Some couples get tired of going to the same restaurants or following the same routine when they go out together. Hear Dale give Amy advice about spicing up her date night. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Golf (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Golf may not be as physically demanding a sport as, say, basketball or soccer. But it still has its diehard fans. And they aren’t just old men anymore. Well, not all of them. Younger players like Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler have made golf popular with a wider, and younger, audience. But it is still an expensive sport to play, with all the equipment you have to buy and rounds you have to pay for, which continues to keep it pretty exclusive. Find out who’s a bigger golf fan, Devan or Jeff. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Teamwork (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We’ve all seen it: the soccer match where one player hogs the ball for the whole game, or the group of people at the office who constantly argue with each other. Probably, that soccer player, and that group of office-workers, are not going to be very successful in the long run. Why? Because they are not demonstrating good teamwork. Teamwork is about putting your own ego aside, in order to do what’s best for the group as a whole. Teamwork is about listening to and cooperating with the people you are working with. When a sports team, or a group at the office, or even a group of friends really practice good teamwork, they get stuff done with a higher level of quality, efficiency, and, best of all, happiness, than if it were every man for himself. Find out how well Marni and Amy work together, as they talk about teamwork. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Strange, beautiful and fascinating animals roam our planet. But we rarely get to see many of them, except occasionally at the zoo. Still, seeing a lion behind bars or an elephant in a concrete cage is nothing like seeing these wild beasts in their natural habitat. Safaris allow us to view exotic animals, like lions, elephants, zebras and hippos, in their own environment. Safaris used to be taken by hunters, but these days it is typically tourists interested in photographing and getting close to the animals. Hear Marni tell Amy about her experiences viewing exotic animals in their natural habitat. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Let Someone In (Eavesdropping) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

When you let someone into your house, you open the door and allow them to walk inside. When you let someone into your heart, you trust them and allow yourself to care about them. It can be dangerous to let someone in. If you let the wrong person into your house, they could steal something or hurt you. If you let the wrong person into your heart, you might get heartbroken. Mason has had a tough time with love. Years ago, Amanda broke his heart. Now, she wants him to let her in again. But is he ready? -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Brave (Movies) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Bravery comes in many shapes and sizes. It takes courage to do something daring or risky, like bungee jumping or sky diving. It takes a different kind of everyday courage to be a single mom or care for people in need. Police officers, fire fighters, and soldiers have to be brave all the time; it’s part of their job. Which of these examples is the true meaning of the word “brave”? We all have our own ideas about what it means to be brave, and our own examples of people who we believe are truly brave. The latest Pixar movie is about a fiery young princess who has to learn about the true meaning of bravery in order to save her kingdom from being destroyed. Hear Marni and Devan talk about this fun new movie, and about what being Brave means to them. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Sixth Sense (Real Life) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

We perceive the world through our senses. The five senses are hearing, seeing, touching, tasting, and smelling. The sixth sense is a way of perceiving things through the mind rather than one of these five physical senses. Not everyone agrees that the sixth sense truly exists. But some people swear that they have psychic abilities. They can predict the future, see things that others can’t, or read people’s minds. Some people even claim that they have the ability to talk with the dead. Even if you don’t consider yourself a psychic, you may have had strange experiences you can’t explain, or felt a strong gut instinct that turned out to be correct. Hear Amy and Jason talk about their experiences with the sixth sense. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

The Campaign (Movies) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

It is election season here in the US, and that means the mudslinging is in full force. Campaigns often get dirty, especially when there is a lot at stake. Candidates will do anything they can in order to make their competition look bad so they can win. In real life, people get frustrated and upset by dirty campaigns. But in the movies, they can be a source of drama and humor. That’s the idea behind the new movie The Campaign, starring Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two politicians who will stop at nothing to win. Find out what Amy and Amanda think of the movie and real-life political campaigns. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Make One's Head Spin (Eavesdropping) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Our brains can’t always move as fast as the world does. Sometimes, when we get a lot of information or news, we need time to process it. If a lot changes without time for you to get used to it, it can make your head spin. When something makes your head spin, so much is happening that you can’t understand it yet. When we left the office, Amanda had been offered a job and Mason confronted his girlfriend in a moment of truth. What happened next is enough to make Jeff’s head spin. -- View this and other great English lessons at www.englishbaby.com

Tomatoes, watermelons, zucchini, peaches. Summer is the time for harvesting all the best fruits and veggies the earth has to offer. Though the weather is cooling and our gardens are no longer producing quite as much as they did earlier in the year, this doesn’t mean we can’t continue to enjoy delicious homegrown goodies. You just have to give canning a try. Canning is a way of preserving fruits and vegetables. You’ve probably seen cans of fruits and veggies in your grocery store. But when you can your own homegrown foods, they taste better, and it saves money, too.
