 342 / Mondo / Mondo Pazzo | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:18

(http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Screen-Shot-2014-04-11-at-10.57.00-620x252.png)(http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Screen-Shot-2014-04-11-at-10.50.19-620x620.png) When the first Mondo release (http://testpressing.org/2013/09/l-u-c-a-precipizio-1-mondo/) arrived last year we were like ‘ah breath of fresh air’. It was everything in one record that we wanted. Super balearic with a slow dance floor beat on the other side. Three tracks of quality music that paid tribute to the composers and session musicians who provided themes and incidental music for `60s cinema and TV. The second in the series (http://testpressing.org/2013/12/rotla-laguna-e-p-edizioni-mondo-2/) going by the name of Rotla appeared and it was just as good. At that point we asked Gerd Running Back (who releases the Mondo records) to put us in touch to get a mix. Francesco Mondo got in touch and sent, as he says, ‘a kind of show, an "audio documentary" mondo movie style’. It’s fun. Enjoy it.  341 / Kenneth Bager / Music For Dreams / Part One | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:25

Happy to welcome Kenneth Bager back to TP towers. We’ve spoke about Kenneth before but basically he is one of the most known DJs in Denmark. He travelled to Ibiza in the early 80s and has had the Balearic bug ever since. He runs a label called Music For Dreams (http://www.discogs.com/label/18929-Music-For-Dreams) which has been about since the early 2000s releasing some lovely music, has a band called The Kenneth Bager Experience, has worked with Aloe Blacc, Sofie Gråbøl (Sarah Lund of The Killing) and we could go on and on. I’m massively looking forward to visiting his Apple Flower festival this year which has music from Gigi Masin live and Phil Mison and the Red Light crew from Amsterdam DJing as well as food from the team originally behind Noma all on a small island in Denmark. Sounds heavenly. He’s a busy man is Kenneth and last week saw the release of his Balearic Biscuits CD which you can check here (https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/kenneth-bagers-balearic-biscuits/id842571055). The track listing is great and contains Leisure Connection, Tosca, Laid Back, er me (ha) and much more… We asked Kenneth to do us a couple of mixes of music that he heard in Ibiza in the early years and here we go. Part 2 to follow at some stage soon. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/341-KENNETH-BAGER-620x620.png)

 340 / Trevor Fung / I Don't Like Acid | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:17

He does really you know… Like acid that is. Trevor Fung is one of those people, much like Nancy Noise, who has ‘that’ feeling. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Screen-Shot-2014-03-31-at-20.57.40-620x424.png) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Screen-Shot-2014-03-31-at-20.57.55-620x487.png) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Screen-Shot-2014-03-31-at-20.58.07.png) He went to work in Amnesia in Ibiza in the mid-80s, took his mates over on holiday, after a while took out Oakenfold and Rampling, had a night dancing under the stars and holding hands, they brought the sound back to London and the rest is acid house history. So it’s a pleasure to welcome Trevor to Test Pressing. Someone we hope to speak more to in time. x. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/340-TREVOR-FUNG-620x620.png)

 339 / Boy`s Own Summer 1991 Part 1 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:49

The Nation posse and J.P Massiera samples. Happening Hippies. “Templehead” has me lurking at a Flying party at The Wag, where I`m sure it was aired alongside that bootleg of Mark Almond riding “Radio Babylon”. “Sonic Shuffle” is Fishtique at Woody`s. Boil in the bag. No sharp bones. Fish heads only. It was like dancing to Weatherall in someone`s front room. Bass. Can you hear me? Loud and clear. I`m not sure what the typewriters were referencing. Harry Partch? Tammy Payne and I`m in the garden, early doors, at a Full Circle all-dayer, already drunk, burning in Paul Smith linen. Rose Windross. Ground Beat, and Fabi Paras mixing Nervous dubs round the back of Oxford Street. For Richard and Jackie. In a crew full of couples I had become the odd one out. Taking mushrooms with the cast of Blackadder. Neneh`s half-sister. Titiyo`s groove was everywhere. Trying to buy M.O.D.E. from Ashley in Blackmarket, without having heard it, based solely on its appearance in a list. 808 State, or State 808, is a Yellow Book one-off, the boys DJing upstairs, and the girls downstairs. Phil played the Kwanzaa Posse, and Rocky played “Don`t Fight It Feel It”. Plug wore his Walkman. Heidi played DSK. Darling Nikki bit me on the nose. Weatherall played “Would I Find Love” and Ruth danced in white silk pajamas. Kinky Disco and a nine O`clock drop with Alison and Throb. Bobby G bemoaning Dizzi Heights being swapped for Mundo Muzique in the space of a fortnight. The times they were a changing. “Boy`s Own. The Complete Fanzines 1986-92” is published by DJhistory.com and can be purchased directly here (http://www.djhistory.com/books). The compendium has also recently been released as an expanded iBook (http://bit.ly/LPay2r). You can find more information over at Bread & Circuses (http://www.breadandcircusespublishing.com/home/boys_own.html) and expect us to cover this in more detail as the series comes to its conclusion in another 3 or 4 hits. Big thank yous to Terry and Jerry. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/BOYS-OWN-16-SUMMER-1991-620x620.jpg)

 338 / Inkswel | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:56

Sweet Soul serenades and re-birthed Jazz. Straight no chaser. Catch the groove (J.P.). Stax from the Attic hijacked, and Hip Hop secrets. Gangsters, mathematics and Mr Magic. Vocoder Boogie and Fusion illusions. Bernard Wright ecstasy and Slave-like Funk. Heavy Disco rollers and HOUSE. Sing the body electric. Congratulations to Jules and Charli on the birth of their daughter Mahali, and here`s a quick list of other Inkswel events to watch out for: Releases / "Stuff Kids Like" on This Thing, the "Bicicla E.P." on Wolf Music and "C U" on Kinfolk Gigs / Cassette 9 in Auckland, New Zealand on April 12.  337 / Selvagem / Balnearico | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:15:51

Berimbau variations. Orchestral Tropicalia. Low slung Funk and groovy Rock. Jorge Ben gone electric. Ethique Boogie sunshine. Tom Tom Club-esque motion. George Benson-esque scat. A Frenchman singing Brazil`s praises. Modern Soul. Seductive female rap and a classic from a childhood in Rio. Percussão, bateria, tambor, stoned solos and hippie harmonies. A musical heaven, like a dream my brother. Where are you based? São Paulo, Brazil. Is this your hometown? Trepanado: No, I was born and raised inland São Paulo state, in a city called Ribeirão Preto ("black stream"), known as a major agrobusiness center. Millos: No. I was born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro’s Brooklyn. What is your first musical memory? Trepanado: Listening to lullaby stories pressed in records with the most creepy covers. Dancing with my mother in the living room to A-Ha. Millos: My dad listening to Zucchero, Oingo Boingo and Ed Motta. What inspired you to start DJing? Trepanado: The radio made me dream about it. There was a program called "Big Apple Show" hosted by the great Julinho Mazzei, broadcasted straight from New York in the `80s and early `90s, that mixed Disco and House. When I was 14, a friend, Decio (from the House duo Anhanguera, that put some stuff out on Robsoul) got his first mixer with which we used to play eurohouse at house parties. Two years later, some of my friends were buying a pair of decks and records. I was just a music nerd, listening to everything from Heavy metal to Trip-Hop, asking myself if it was OK to like Slayer, Portishead and Chic at the same time. When I moved to Sao Paulo to graduate I started nightclubbing properly, dancing to Laurent Garnier, Robert Owens and François Kevorkian when they came down here, but it wasn't until I heard Optimo that it clicked because I related to that approach, it was something that I wanted to pursue as a musical vision. And of course reading to Last Night a DJ Saved My Life and all those amazing stories, going through those club's top 50's playlists and just wondering how it felt. Millos: I was not very interested in dance music until I was 20 years old, which was only 7 years ago actually. It was around that time that I started going to two very good parties in Rio de Janeiro, called Combo and Moo. The residents DJs played a lot of mutant Disco, Post-Punk, new Disco, and House tunes and I was blown away from the first time I went. They also had amazing international DJs as guests like Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, Richard Sen, Daniel Wang playing regularly. I didn't know you could play an Azymuth record after some crazy German techno until then. How long have you been DJing / making music? Millos: I've been DJing for about 6 years now. Trepanado: Roughly 10 years, I ran another party, as part of a different duo for two years in those crazy 2005 times when the music genre barrier really fell. I used to come up with crazy genres, Chitalo, Cock Rock, Post-Punk-Funk, for the flyer. Anyway, I only started to blend records properly 4 years ago, when friends bought me two turntables as a wedding present. Then I got an Urei 1620 mixer for my house setup. But I was giving up this "hobby" before Selvagem started late in 2011. I judged there was some sort of generation gap between me and the crowd in the places I was playing to and I didn't have the patience to do any PR with clubs and promoters, having to work as editor-in-chief of an inflight magazine and running a house with wife and kid, even if friends supported me. So I was in the process of accepting that I was just a music head and working as a DJ was something I should put past me. Then it all changed. I met Millos through a mutual friend, Selvagem's best man, and he approached me talking about this Sunday spot at this bar just in the middle of this amazing square downtown Sao Paulo, a place we could throw a free sunset party once a month. From the beginning I sensed something different.

 334 / Lexx / Far Away Places | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:46

With the relaunch of the site I thought there are certain people I'd like a mix from and Lexx was one of them. Luckily he came through and what can you say. He's a Swiss man with ultimate good taste in music that runs from his hardcore love of Reggae through to Disco, Balearic Beats and House. We love him here and if you are a regular round these parts I am guessing you do too. Starting with Rare Silk it moves from there... Tidy as ever. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/334-LEXX-620x620.png)

 335 / Aaron Coyes / Peaking Lights / Bad Taste | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:40:43

It blows like Archie Shepp`s “A Balm In Gilead”. “Theme De Yo Yo” taking “Three For The Carnival”. Camp Funk and timbales collide with Chicago trax. Tambien`s coveted washer-women teach the Post-Punkers a lesson. Y Records` Pulsallama, in Italian. Sublime frequencies, Ethiopian Jazz. Rhodes and horns give chase. Garage rumbles. Link Wray on Love Potion #9. Sweet West Coast Boogie. Black Power kalimbas. Disco drums high on a mountain top. Terence Parker-like Detroit happiness. Blue-eyed Electro Soul and righteous Rare Groove. Hold On. An endless race in outer space. Klaus Schulze to Gino Soccio. Black voices and raw African scream contests. Dread Voodooism. Funky Niyabinghi. Cerrone strings. Cold Wave poetry and Synth Pop power. Rituals. Van Morrison`s Them in a love-in. A heavy dose of lyte Psyche. Revolution #?. A midnight plane. Free Soul set against chains. Orchestral sleaze. CTI Fusion. Bollywood and strange games, harps, n` things (mercy, ain`t what they used to be). Ray`s girls get dirty. Stress and needle drops. Bad taste? Heavy roots. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/335-AARON-COYES-2-620x620.png) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-1-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-2-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-3-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-4-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-11-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-21-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-31-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-41-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-12-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-22-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-32-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-42-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-13-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-23-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-33-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-43-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-14-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-24-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-34-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-44-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-15-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-25-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-35-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-45-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-16-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-26-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-36-620x465.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-46-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-17-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-27-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-37-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-47-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-18-620x827.jpg) (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/photo-28-620x827.jpg)

 336 / Jex Opolis | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 49:26

We love the two Jex releases on Good Timin' (http://jexopolis.bandcamp.com/), they hit that mid-line between dancefloor and melody perfectly, so thought who better to represent the new wave than him for a mix. He's just come back from Japan, and obviously went digging, so here we a have a mix of music from there and some of his other favourites. Nice. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/336-JEX-OPOLIS-620x620.png)

 333 / Jose Padilla / Cafe Del Mar #4 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:00:16

God I love these tapes. More classic Jose Padilla music here. This time cassette number four in the series. Not sure whether it is because many people now channel this sound or that Padilla was totally ahead of his time but this tape sounds very 'now'. You'll know what I mean when you press play. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/333-JOSE-PADILLA-4-620x620.png) Download (http://testpressing.org/audio/Cafe_Del_Mar_4.mp3) Massive thanks to Chris for being very patient while I record all his Cafe tapes.

 332 / Pender Street Steppers | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:18:27

(http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/PPU056A-620x620.jpg) Pender Street Steppers (Jack Jutson and Liam Butler) bringing the Monday morning sounds for you on this nice Spring morning (well it is in London). I got their recent release 'Openin' Up' and 'M Flight' on PPU and loved it so thats why we got in touch. If you've not heard the track its worth taking a listen here (http://ppu.bigcartel.com/product/pender-street-steppers-openin-up-mood-hut-ppu) but here is a mix to show what they are into and all about. This one runs from ambient sound then up from there. As ever I asked 'What's the story?' and they said, "It's recorded 'in hut' in January 2014. A practical and rejuvenating disc mix by PSS Productions. Shouts 2 hastings steam sauna and eden.". Press play.  Test Pressing Radio#8 / Apiento & Phil Mison | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:41

Here's a new one in mine and Phil's podcast series. I am writing this away from home so haven't got the tracklisting but there is music from Gigi Masin, Syncbeat, Gil Scott-Heron, Rueben Wilson, a couple of mystery tracks, Benedek on PPU, some happy bits from ESG on a house tip and Action AJ ("so damn hot"), Gladys Knight and a new track from Mark Barrott's new Sketches From An Island album on International Feel that we weren't allowed to play (sorry Mark!) called 'Go Berri Be Happy'. Nice. x. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/TP-RADIO8-620x620.jpg) Download (http://testpressing.org/audio/Test_Pressing_Podcast_8.mp3)

 331 / Peter Visti / Live At Bar O, Copenhagen | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2:00:54

I recently had the pleasure of visiting a new bar in Copenhagen, Bar O, run and owned by Danish DJs Peter Visti and Le Gammeltoft and also Puk Lykke. If you've been reading the site for a while you may have heard a mix of Peter's (http://testpressing.org/2011/12/169-peter-visti-live-at-grammofon-cafe/) in the past but basically he is a fine fine DJ and one of the best Denmark has to offer. He knows his music backwards and now has his own venue, alongside Le (a Danish radio hero and DJ), where they can play what they like when they like. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_5768-620x826.jpg) I was there for Copenhagen Fashion Week with the girlfriend and we went there twice and I have to say its kind of nice to walk into a bar and be greeted by not only by welcoming Danish people (http://www.visitdenmark.com/en-us/denmark/culture/art-danish-hygge) but also by massive images of Elkin & Nelson (the bar name makes sense now right?). The music was spot on, the drinks were great and if you're ever there I can't recommend it enough. Here's Peter giving you a taste of what it is all about musically. (http://testpressing.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/331-PETER-VISTI-620x620.png) Download (http://testpressing.org/audio/331_Live_At_Bar_O.mp3) Bar O (http://barocph.dk/) is at Pilestræde 12, 1112 KBH K, Denmark. Thanks to Peter, Puk and Le.
