Summary: A persuasive Trekkie somehow convinces a series virgin to go on a seven-year-mission to watch every episode of every Star Trek series. Can someone fall in love with The Original Series 45 years after airing? Is there a worse episode than “The Alternative Factor”? How creepy is Chekov?

Well, we’ve come to the end of our journey with The Original Series crew with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The last adventure for Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov features them coming to terms with Russian Perestroika… I mean, Klingon… Perestroika. I mean, the Klingons are in trouble and the Federation is trying to negotiate the terms of a peace treaty. Anyway, it’s a good movie and a fine send-off for our crew. Comments 3:25 “They had a giant warehouse and they were just grabbing stuff from that?” 4:50 “A lot of this movie is right time, right place.” 13:25 “Final Frontier doesn’t exist, so we won’t talk about that.” 14:15 “Kirk and crew were not ready to retire. They were not ready to go out to pasture… but now they are.” 21:00 “The Federation is what America thinks of itself.” 28:40 “Hey, it’s possible that he went to Vegas and had a great time. We don’t know.” 33:35 “She did Look Who’s Talking, for god’s sake. This is not someone who was making profound movies about the human condition.” 38:20 “While the conspiracy is definitely beyond the pale as far as morality goes, it’s done for kind of the right reason, as far as these people believe.” 45:05 “The fact that Kirk is never approached for the conspiracy…is very significant.” 48:35 “Just as Kirk has a lot of influence on Spock…Spock has a lot of influence on Kirk.” 54:35 “The question is whether the Federation is a group of different races coming together, or a group run by humans that aliens are allowed into.” 60:30 “This is a really good way of ending it.” Listen If you like Trekabout, why not subscribe? iTunes RSS
