NBA All Star Champion Wali Jones is a Philadelphia native. He attended Overbrook High School and Villanova University where he was a standout ball player. He is a 10-year veteran of the NBA, Jones was drafted in the third round (20th overall) of the 1964 NBA Draft by Detroit. In addition to this and many other endeavors he won an NBA championship ring alongside another Overbrook High Alumni named Wilt Chamberlain with the Philadelphia 76er's in 1967; and voted into the Hall of Fame as the best team in the NBA’s first 25 years. In his 17 years of service to South Florida as a member of the Miami HEAT organization, Jones has enriched the lives of nearly one million children through one of his trademark community programs, motivational speeches and clinics. As the HEAT’s community affairs liaison, Jones has made it his life’s ambition to motivate South Florida’s youth to action, both in and out of the classroom. He is the founder and director of the National Shoot for the Stars program, providing complimentary “Books and Basketball” clinics for underprivileged youth, while the program is presented by title sponsor FedEx. Taos also founded Unify America, a national campaign for unity and love designed to bring people together and stand against gender, racial, and economic inequality. Under this effort, Taos submitted a formal request to Georgia Legislators for “Unify Georgia,” a day symbolizing the promotion of unity, gender and racial equality, and intolerance of discrimination. On March 11, 2019, “Unify Georgia” was commemorated as an official day in the state of Georgia. Taos is continuing to expand the initiative to neighboring states with the goal of gaining participation from all 50 states. Keeping his commitment to driving change on a local and national level, Taos launched The Millennial Civil Rights campaign last July. The campaign is an intergenerational effort led by Millennial leaders to motivate change in the areas of race relations, gun violence, individuals rights, and financial insecurity. In September 2019, the campaign announced its first initiative to promote political engagement and voter registration: The Free Democracy Tour. The tour is a six-campus college tour set to equip students with principles of democracy, unity, nonviolence and onsite voter registration. The campaign has garnered national media attention and has received the support of Atlanta Civil Rights leaders, elected officials and community activists including Congressman John Lewis, Congressman Hank Johnson, Senator Donzella James, Representative Park Cannon, and Representative Marie Metze. An advocate for equal rights and the promotion of unity, Taos has been recognized for his public service on national, state, and local levels. She is best known as the lead vocalist on the Crystals' hits "Then He Kissed Me" and "Da Doo Ron Ron", "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" & many others. In 1968, she appeared in the original Broadway production of the musical Hair, where she performed the song "Aquarius". She would later appear in the Broadway show Two Gentlemen of Verona in 1971. She also toured with and recorded for various artists (such as the Neville Brothers, Bobby Womack and Isaac Hayes); made short appearances in films; and contributed songs to different movie soundtracks (including the 1970 film Cotton Comes to Harlem). In 1983, she and her family moved to London, England, where she and Idris continued their careers in music. In 1990, they moved to Vienna, Austria where she continued singing and writing songs with her husband Idris Muhammad and also hosted a local radio show; they lived in Vienna until 1997. Andrew Edge sang backing vocals on her BMG (Austria) CD LaLa Brooks & Friends in 1994. Brooks moved back to the United States at the turn of the century and resides in the East Village. GRAMMY® winner Club Nouveau,Timex Social Club GRAMMY® Award winning Jay King/Club Nouveau's music was just featured in the 2019 #1 Hit Movie "US" by Director Jordan Peele As a veteran mogul Jay King brings as much humility to the field as he does what has been called his genius. With three decades of continuous achievements in music, management, film/TV/radio, consulting and publishing; King has made an indelible impression. He claims Northern California in general as his hometown due to a nomadic youth spent between many of the Bay Area’s cities; as well as Alaska for birthing his career. There was a deep musical undercurrent added to his early years by a clan which boasted a number of ministers, extending from his great-grandfather through a number of cousins, who all played instruments as well. His great uncle, Saunders King, a respected jazz/blues guitarist, offered the West Coast the first family hit in the 1940’s—‘The S.K. Blues’—adding to the musical backdrop of King’s childhood. Jay King broadened his own talent when he took up the trumpet in his freshman year of high school and when Popping and Breaking became popular; dance soon opened doors to his subsequent career in music. As his music and connections continued to develop, he found himself writing songs for Con Funk Shun whose members, Michael Cooper and Felton Pilate, encouraged King against the detractors who at the time didn’t like his sound. In 1986, King starting the independent record label JAY Records to release the Timex Social Club hit ‘Rumors’ and ushered in the biggest selling single of 1986 (3.5 million copies) and becoming the #1 R&B single on the Billboard Charts. With a Top 10 single on the Billboard Pop charts for over 56 weeks, King watched his life change as his music became an unprecedented hit. What he’d produced was history-making, as nobody had before taken an R&B song from an indie label to such heights. Although having independently produced, pressed and marketed his own music King was without the money to compete at radio plays and had to be creative with promoting. “There were challenges. You couldn’t reach out to stores, and social media didn’t exist then so you couldn’t let people know with a click of a button that you had something out.You had to get out and hustle. People were making fun of me and laughing because I was out hustling records.” Bypassing traditional methods, King utilized Macola Records because of its position as an indie manufacturer with no association to a major label. Such moves from a 24 year old entrepreneur made the year 1986 even more memorable, as he quickly followed up with a label/production deal with Warner Brother Records and his King Jay Records label, subsequently releasing the first Club Nouveau single ‘Jealousy’ and the album, ‘Life, Love & Pain’. After ‘Jealousy’ went to #8 on the Billboard R&B charts in September of 1986, followed by ‘Situation #9’ (#4 Billboard R&B charts), 1987 came in with an even bigger bang when ‘Lean On Me’ was released in February and became #1 Billboard Pop/#2 Billboard R&B platinum single, winning a Grammy for R&B Song of The Year. Nabaté's debut album called, 'Eclectic Excursions' dropped in the Summer of 2018 and until this point, he's had a glorious journey. During his high school years, Nabaté represented the fifth generation of jazz for the preview of the Louis Armstrong Archives, with trumpet greats Dr. Donald Byrd, "Doc" Cheatham, "Dizzy" Gillespie, Jimmy Owens, Jon Faddis and Wynton Marsalis.
