MGoPodcast 8.17: Freckles Like the Sprinkles on Top of a Ridiculously Good-Looking Man Sundae | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 81:17

Marc-Gregor Campredon We Couldn’t Have One Without the Other We get to make audio content because we can afford the studio time and equipment to make it happen, and that’s thanks to the people running ads between segments. The show was recorded in the Michigan Room of the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown. It is presented by the Bo Store, UGP & Moe's, and if it wasn’t for Rishi and Ryan we probably would have jobs we might lose for googling the things we google for work sometimes. The others: Homesure Lending, Ann Arbor Elder Law, the the University of Michigan Alumni Association, Deo Bookkeeping, Michigan Law Grad, Defensive Drivers Group, and Peak Wealth Management. ---------------------------- 1. That Basketball Season starts against 1:00 Why doesn’t Kenpom let us sort stats by before and after an Illinois player calls the team “white collar”? Since then Michigan’s been legitimately the 4th best defense in the conference, the 6th best offense in the country, and the second-best team in the Big Ten. Other than Zak Heroball what’s the worst shot Michigan takes? 2. Maverick Morgan Memorial Bracketology 33:20 Big Ten MVP is the poker of the bear. Graham Couch’s plan to get MSU to stop gaming RPI to get on the bubble despite an atrocious season is a brilliant one. BTT: Get past Purdue and it’s four games in four days versus the short bench for a B1G title. Will it take that to get off that 8-9 seed line? 3. Gimmicky Top 5: Upside Down BTN Personalities starts at 50:55 Stephen Bardo set a new record for worst sports broadcast by a sober person, inspiring our top five list of worst BTN commentators. 4. Harbaugh vs Everybody starts at 1:10:40 We catch up on an offseason’s worth of Jim Harbaugh at the business end of some of the dumbest national media takes in the history of sports hot takes. Why is Pete Finebaum mad about Harbaugh trying to hire an NFL WRs coach? Why is Stewart Mandel hyperventilating about Michigan having exactly 85 players for exactly 85 scholarships? Basically there’s nothing that unethical cheating hypocrites hate more than a competitive, ethical, authentic, rule-abiding innovator. ---------------------------- MUSIC: "Sabotage"—Beatie Boys “All Our Songs”—Built to Spill “It’s Raining Men”—Weather Girls “Across 110th Street” THE USUAL LINKS Helpful iTunes subscribe link General podcast feed link Direct download link What's with the theme music?

 WTKA Roundtable 3/2/2017: The Scars of ’73 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:59

It’s a long season [Joseph Dressler] Bruce Madej and Ira Weintraub are on hand as Sam is out. Things discussed: Has any announcer ever had a worse half than Stephen Bardo? End-of-game second-guessing. Bruce weighs in on soccer, Happy Gilmore, musicals Things happen—do they happen more often to Michigan? Did Julia Louis-Dreyfus rushing the court? Is Michigan still bubble-proof? Two of the best bigs in the Big Ten this year are _____. Next year: Alpha dog? X? What to do with the 13th spot You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Audioboom. Segment two is here. Segment three is here.  MGoPodcast 8.16: Fair But Mean | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 75:33

Mmmm potential rebound [Bryan Fuller] Our recording got cut off before we did the intro and outro so David had to record those at home. We Couldn’t Have One Without the Other We get to make audio content because we can afford the studio time and equipment to make it happen, and that’s thanks to the people running ads between segments. The show is presented by the Bo Store, UGP & Moe's, and if it wasn’t for Rishi and Ryan we probably would have real jobs. Bandwagon Basketball Podcast starts at 1:00 The bandwagon for this Beilein team has a lot of room, since Ace’s is the only ass to remain in its seat through the bad times, and it’s a rather scrawny one. Defense is alright, offense is as good as the best of ’em. Talk every starter and how each has developed this year. Why two stretch bigs makes Michigan a tough ask to defend. 2. Finding a Seed starts at 30:00 Disgust over the Minnesota game lingers: what that game could cost this team in the postseason. Appreciation for Northwestern’s commitment to drama (and Econ homework). 3. Gimmicky Top Five Developments You’d Like to See in Spring Football starts at 46:30 Wilton Speight to the NFL, people saying the best recruit in the country is good, prophesies that might make Penn State fans, and more Glasgows. 4. A Grim Hockey Talk starts at 1:05:16 David Nasternak, who’s been covering hockey for us this year, sits in to talk about how the bottom finally fell out, and what’s really up with this program right now. Fandom endurance badges to anyone who sticks around for all of it. ---------------------------- MUSIC: “Secure the Galactic Perimeter”—Soronprfbs “Bubble Song”—Spongebob Squarepants “Catch 'Em Slippin’”—O.G.  WTKA Roundtable 2/23/2017: B or O | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:34

MAAR been at the lembas bread? [Patrick Barron] Things discussed: Rutgers is a bunch of Michael Currys. Wagner offense worked, Michigan took ton of open threes that missed. Free throw misses becoming a thing? TV Teddy had a dream where Michigan’s bench was too demonstrative. Big Ten really has to address Valentine. His crew may be worse. Don’t drift back onto the bubble. Free DJ on the offensive glass? Purdue matchups: Swanigan has no answer for “How is Michigan going to keep you from dominating this game?” Sam’s segue to Ole Miss. They went too hard too fast: Tunsil, Treadwell, etc., to put them under the microscope—may not be any different than how the rest of the SEC operates (nv). Brian outs the story behind my Stormtrooper cover last year to demonstrate how on the ball Michigan’s compliance department is. NCAA has to make it not be worth it. Best M hoops coach ever? Orr had fun/small teams. Frieder had a Romulus rule. Give Coach B that year with McGary or whatever and it’s a slam dunk. Old Man Craig remembers the good old days/bad old days. Mo gets a historically bad whistle. You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Audioboom. Segment two is here. Segment three is here.  WTKA Roundtable 2/17/2017: On Trolls and Trohls | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:46

[Patrick Barron] Let’s see what did we discuss: Well this hadn’t happened yet but… ’Pete Finebaum, the unabashed SEC water carrier, really needs to get his facts straight. #AlternativeFacts — Coach Harbaugh (@CoachJim4UM) February 17, 2017 It was discussed. Also: What do you do with trolls? Ignore them, or make them the joke. NCAA’s associated persons rule will lock IMG, other power school coaches out of college jobs. Legislating against capable people getting jobs because they may be good at those jobs is as petty as it is stupid. Harbaugh vs The World: Harbaugh is winning—how can the NCAA block him from showing it to his players. The world that is. Athletic departments and how they police themselves—Colorado example brought up because MSU is too near and too ugly for rivalry ha-ha’s. Wisconsin—Liked the man-to-man-ups and the chance to get a marquee win with Koenig not around to shoot the Badgers out of a hole. What gets Michigan into the dance? Is it 9-9? 10-8? Because Kenpom thinks we can go 10-8 now. You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Audioboom. Segment two is here. Segment three is here.  WTKA Roundtable 2/9/2017: Beilein v Phil | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 42:21

[Marc-Gregor Campredon] Things discussed: Women’s basketball: the best team Michigan’s ever had. Encourage everyone to get down there this year and see it (they’re 12-0 at home). Watch #1 Kysre Gondrezick their star PG, junkyard dog Jillian Dunston, and freshman center Hallie Thome (50 blocks this year!) Men’s basketball: the best game Michigan’s ever had against Michigan State? MSU shot clock violations: Derrick Walton preventing them from getting it to their PG. Finally DW’s becoming the guy we though we recruited. X-W Package! Defensive rebounding is worse than normal this year. #FreeTeske Everybody should name a good thing Brian said on the radio.  WTKA Roundtable 2/2/2017: How You Like Me Now? | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 45:36

[Bill Rapai] Things Discussed: Aubrey Solomon: We know what he says if he likes you; if he doesn’t like you he’ll let your quarterback know. James Hudson: Impressed that he was listed at 295 because that’s ready to go size. Best wide receiver class ever? Sam has some old recruiting stories and a lot of big receiver hauls going back to the early ’90s. Who’s the #2 receiver in this class? Drew Singleton calls in, talks about how he fell in love with Michigan, what position he’ll come in to play, and the New Jersey to Michigan Express. Who’s the viper? Could be Singleton, or JKP, or Jordan Glasgow. Position shakeouts will happen over the offseason. Are M-OSU running away with the conference? MSU always loses the battle to Michigan but who knows, maybe their 2-stars will be Cook, Waynes, Dennard and Conklin again. More around the conference: Maryland’s class: Durkin’s secret to recruiting. Diminishing Wisconsin, Penn State and Nebraska on the rise. But why are you sleeping on Wisconsin? Nationally? Tom Herman will be fine. Florida will not. How did USC do it? Stanford has just 14 players but they’re all really good. Odd that Clemson’s national championship didn’t result in more.  MGoRadio 2.12: Projecting of the Stars | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 123:00

2 hours and 4 minutes MGoRadio is recorded before a live retail audience at The Bo Store, 333 S. Main. Special guest: Steve Lorenz of 247 Sports. --------------------------------- The Sponsors We can do this because people support us. You should support them too so they’ll want to do it again next year! The show is presented by the Bo Store, UGP & Moe's, and if it wasn’t for Rishi and Ryan we probably would have real jobs. Our other sponsors are also key to all of this: Homesure Lending, Ann Arbor Elder Law, the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, Deo Bookkeeping, Michigan Law Grad, Defensive Drivers Group, and Peak Wealth Management. --------------------------------- Offensive Recruits starts at 39:57 Listen as we wait on Niko Collins. OL class is big but didn’t close the way we wanted to see. Receiver corps: hoooooooooo boy. Where do we rate the receivers after DPJ? Also, about DPJ. Defensive Recruits starts at 39:58 Camp guys ended up nationally ranked 4-stars. One of the best highlight videos Ace has ever seen. The awesome DL class may actually be underrated—one of the 3T/5T recruits is half Willie Henry and half Jake Ryan. The LB class missed out on Gay but still, hoooooo. Everybody’s watching #5 and who is this kid? And would have liked another defensive back but again two great-looking cornerbacks we comp to Jourdan Lewis and Richard Sherman. Lightning Round of Across the Crooked Blue Line starts at 1:23:23 Finding something to complain about is hard. Finding something to like is easy unless you ask us to pick a favorite. Brown got to go LB shopping among elites for the first time in his life. Hoops starts at 1:53:20 Say something Ace, oh wait he can’t because he’s been defeated. Wagner era begins with weird whistles and 14 minuets of Donnal vs. Nick Ward—thanks Breslin! Walton isn’t soft but calling him soft can tap some crazy new level of Walton. --------------------------------- MUSIC: “I Don’t Want to Wait”—Paula Cole “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want”—The Smiths “Santa Baby”—Eartha Kitt “Across 110th Street” THE USUAL LINKS Helpful iTunes subscribe link General podcast feed link Direct download link What's with the theme music?

WTKA Roundtable 1/26/2017: Romano Vivito More | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:17

48 minutes [A Michigan student getting enriched on a trip to Rome, 2001] Things discussed: To Rome! Oh you voted spring break away? Okay we’ll wait until our semester is over then fly to Italy…with educational opportunities, and press release orphans. Also Michigan can hypothetically still go to Florida in future years after classes end. Come at me NCAA! Orphans! Would Saban ever do this? Recruiting effect. Solution to SEC schools rampantly paying players, other than legalizing the rampant paying of players? A lost Michigan game on rollerskates. Also some funny wins in Notre Dame’s win count. Like a thrift store. Probably not on rollerskates. JayBaugh to RBs: 10th coach might fix it. Better for the team, obviously not the position. Greg Frey: looks like a great move. Great track record, coordinated OSU’s new offensive coordinator’s offense. Scary Indiana, scary Indiana, scary Indiana, let me say it once again. Scary Indiana, scary Indiana, scary Indiana, yes this was recorded when, the Hoosiers’ size still gave us hesitation. Given past events it was a logical explanation. So now we have this extraneous syncopation. We weight the Big Ten race, and catch it in the face, for Scary Indiana, scary INDiana, scary Indiana vs M at home.  MGoPodcast 8.15: All Roads Lead To | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 59:57

1 hour This podcast is presented by UGP & Moe's and their latest venture, the Bo Store, and frankly would not be happening without them; Rishi and Ryan and their people have been huge MGoBlog supporters from the start. Our other sponsors are also key in the expanding empire: thanks to Homesure Lending, Ann Arbor Elder Law, the Residence Inn Ann Arbor Downtown, who graciously gave us their Michigan Room to record this episode, the University of Michigan Alumni Association, Deo Bookkeeping, Michigan Law Grad, Defensive Drivers Group, and Peak Wealth Management. -------------------------- Basketball starts at 1:00 Free Teske: He's a little bit of a lost puppy but he's big and solves a big problem with two point defense. Wilson is fun. Irvin and Walton taking on more of the offense. Indiana, MSU and Ohio State games loom large for any chance at the tournament. Inside the Crooked Blue Line with Steve Lorenz starts at 26:01 We run through Michigan’s remaining targets, including a Massachusetts athlete outta nowhere whose name Don Brown has known for a long time, and Ace can barely pronounce. Is the class heading for a disappointing finish or can Michigan send in…The Closer? Hockey starts at 53:19 After the most depressing Michigan-FYS weekend in history it’s macro time: it’s gotta be over now, or else the masses aren’t renewing their tickets. -------------------------- MUSIC: “Human Performance”—Parquet Courts “Midnight on the Earth”—St. Paul and the Broken Bons “Across 110th Street” THE USUAL LINKS Helpful iTunes subscribe link General podcast feed link Direct download link What's with the theme music?

WTKA Roundtable 1/19/2017: The Raw Uncut Takes | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:28

Things discussed: Wisconsin moral victory: What are the odds of Michigan basketball going 8-4 down the stretch to match last year? Weird freaky three-point luck of opponents? We all agree they don’t defend non-threes well. Don’t yell at refs at the Kohl Center in German? Getting more physical is laudable; you’re not turning these guys into Bill Laimbeer. FREE JOHN TESKE! Ty Wheatley Sr. moves on, how will Michigan? Sam shares some facts about the Wheatley situation that rather definitively refute the assertions of certain persons who get really angry when random internet people are politely skeptical of those assertions. Talk names: The Beast, Mike Hart, stealing from Indiana or Penn State. General Harbaugh turnover: it’s fine. You’ll never get a Bo-like staff again. Recruiting: Aubrey Solomon’s great quickness. James Hudson: greatly desired by Michigan. Wheatley loss hurts with Gay. Penn State could win the conference (no really win it not…) next year? You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Audioboom. Segment two is here. Segment three is here.  WTKA Roundtable 1/12/2017: Right From the Oven | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:53

49 minutes [Marc-Gregor Campredeon] Things discussed: Pep Hamilton Part 1: It makes some sense if you understand it’s the Browns, and the fact that he can be reunited with Ed Feng. Hoop: very poor defensive effort, AND opponents are shooting the lights out from three, AND…callers Callers: They call into a radio station to talk about Beilein. Most of what they say is sensible. What happened to the Donlon Effect? B recruiting: it is what it is. Recruiting with attrition in mind is a good change. The O-Line: Hoke’s bad recruiting and bad luck left just one upperclassman tackle (JBB) on the team for 2017. Pep Hamilton Part 2: Pep was on hand for the big uptick in Stanford. Calm, smart, confident—not fiery on the sideline. Coaching turnover will be a thing as long as Harbaugh’s here, but not a bad thing. PJ Fleck rowing his whole recruiting out of K-zoo with him; we’ve moved WMU’s kitchen sink to soft commit. You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Audioboom.  WTKA Roundtable 1/5/2017: Leaking Wet Barns | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 47:13

48 minutes There is no Brian (ill) or Sam (out) so you get Ira, Ed, and Craig Ross. [Bryan Fuller] Things discussed: E-sports are a thing, and not just in Ira’s house. WTKA actually had to talk about whether they’d start covering it as a sport. Craig recounts what hoops and hockey games were like in the Middle Ages, when “water boy” meant the kid whose job it was to mop up the puddles from the roof leaks. The Orange Bowl: Florida State’s got talent. Ed didn’t trust his numbers. How much of that was losing Peppers at the last minute? Could Peppers have blocked DeMarcus Walker, because our guards sure as hell couldn’t. Next year worries: they’re all concerned about the secondary. Best guess at offensive line makeup. Quarterback competition? Speight’s injury makes it way too hard to judge his last two games, but Iowa opens the door for a real ninja. Time management fail: hopefully we don’t see that again. Skill position guys: receivers to take a step back, RB check again later, TE should be okay. Throwing out names to replace Fisch: Pep Hamilton? Hoops is hard to judge.
