The two great commandments are loving God and loving people. In this sermon we will get practical about why we fail to love people well, who we tend to avoid, and how the Bible instructs us about loving people in a way that honors God.

The new year has come and with it comes the Year of Engagement at The Journey. In this sermon we will hear from Pastor Darrin about what it looks like for the church to engage with God through the process of Spirit-led life renewal.

As in our day, John’s contemporaries lived in a world permeated by idolatry. It is no surprise that John ends his letter warning against it. In this final sermon in 1 John, we will see how identifying and repenting of idols is key to worshiping the one true God.

John reminds us that any teaching that lessens Christ’s unique and ultimate power over sin, death, and Satan is a lie. In this sermon we will also see that any teaching that begins and ends with the crucified, resurrected, and returning Lord is one to stake your life on.

John reminds us that we live in a dark world that opposes God at every turn. In this sermon we look at how the cross leads us to absolute confidence that our deepest needs and concerns are known by God and that our salvation is secure in his goodness.

The life of the believer is marked by love for others. In this sermon we will see that it is not enough to simply speak love, or to theorize about love, but that true love is borne out in action as well.

Just as a child receives the nature of their parent, so does the believer receive the nature of his or her Parent in the form of the Holy Spirit. In this sermon we will see how it is the Spirit, not the best efforts of the believer, that ultimately helps us practice what we preach.

John shocks his audience into reality by telling them not to love the world, which is a slightly more positive way of saying to hate the world. In this sermon we will explore John's warning to resist the lure of attractive lies of a dark world that attempts to deceive followers of Christ.
