Summary: Chewie, Mike, Brian, and Dirk have been talking about Magic: The Gathering on the internet for almost 10 years (at the time of this writing). Since there are so many shows about strategy and tournaments, these dorks focus on all the fun you can have with the game outside of that, from flavor to philosophy to game design to history to whatever else we can come up with. Hey we're back! We took a couple weeks off, first to do a non-podcast chatting stream and then out of respect for the Black Lives Matter movement. By the way, Black Lives Matter. The dorks are back with another edition of There's No Plane Like Home! This time we're taking a look at everyone's favorite (?) time-travel affected plane, Tarkir. Tarkir is based on various real-world Asian countries, so the physical aspects of the plane don't really change through the versions. Of course, when you're hopping through timelines, it's not really the physical world you're worried about. In the past you're at war with the dragons and are in danger of getting eaten. In the Dragons timeline you're subservient to your dragon overlords. And in the Khans timeline...well that's actually not so bad. The dorks are back on Ikoria! Since time is forever limited we weren't able to take a look at the ENTIRE set, but we did hit a lot of the high points. Brian is blown away by the Triomes (for some reason), the new cycle of wedge Ultimatums are pretty amazing, and the rest of the Companions are bizarrely entertaining. Then we circle around and hit the rest of the Mythic Rares that we hadn't covered yet and called it a night. This episode is going be a bit different. With all the coronavirus stuff going on across the world and tensions running high everywhere, the dorks couldn't just ignore it all and talk about Magic. While escapism is great, sometimes you've got to face the facts. So the first part of this episode is all about how COVID-19 is affecting us and why we need to embrace social distancing. The dorks are finishing up their Mythic Conscription of the Urza block with the final set, Urza's Destiny! As is usually the case with older sets, some colors have plenty of possible mythics, and some just...don't. Old sets are kind of inconsistent like that. Out of nowhere, Unsanctioned was revealed on Tuesday. Unsanctioned is the latest silver-bordered product from WotC, but it's not a full new Un set. It's a boxed set that features five decks full of some of the greatest hits of silver-bordered cards along with a few new cards in each color. The dorks go in-depth on all the new cards and drop a few honorable mentions of the reprints. During the final thoughts we ended up going off on a few topics. Brian & Sam's Prerelease experience, streaming Skyrim, and Dirk's hang up about the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Just good old random nonsense! In other news, Brian upgraded his computer to Windows 10. That means he can use his headset mic, which is why he sounds drastically different now.
