Have you ever heard someone say, “Hey, hold my beer while you watch this!” Hopefully, it wasn’t at a fire but the idea illustrates 1 of the 7 hazardous behaviors we talk about in this month’s Tailboard Talk. Credit goes to the IAFC who developed a crew resource management manual that, among other things, discusses these behaviors. But, we are easily distracted by shiny objects (kind of like the squirrel chasing the acorn in the movie Ice Age) so we also talk about seeing and adapting to changes in the fire service first. We use pensions and service levels as examples of doing so.
