Our 4/9 Show Podcast Edit is Up – With Martha Davis - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:05

(http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/Martha-Davis-NEW-2010-HEADSHOT-199x300.jpg) The podcast for our 4/9 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the bottom of this post. Martha Davis (http://www.themotels.com/) returns to Revenge of the 80s Radio. This time, we talk about her new children's album: Red Frog Presents: 16 Songs for Parents and Children (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0035OZCVA). Our interview leads off the second hour of the show. We also play new music by Kate Garner (http://www.kategarner.org/) and Louise Robey (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Louise-Robey/315133096662), as well as classic alternative tracks from Berlin (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B002BW79SQ), The Jim Carroll Band (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=The+Jim+Carroll+Band&x=12&y=19), Strawberry Switchblade (http://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Collection-Strawberry-Switchblade/dp/B000BZPS0Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1270936002&sr=8-1), Men Without Hats (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B000FCQP6Q), Elvis Costello (http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Profane-Sugarcane-Elvis-Costello/dp/B001RTCOZC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1270936071&sr=1-1) and more. (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61BTruXJEoL._SL500_AA280_.jpg) While we discuss Red Frog, Martha also offers her take on children's entertainment today and why she created her own album for youngsters. We also cover the importance of arts programs in schools and exposing kids to several genres at home. In truth, the empty suits who run children's television and music operations are too careful (read: "politically correct") and fearful to offend or scare little ones -- as well as their parents -- to the point where programming and entertainment aimed at them have been dumbed down to the point where everything is as generic as the mainstream adult-oriented music. Things have changed since we were younger: we had violent cartoons, monsters hosting Sesame Street (not annoying ones like Elmo - Ms. Davis and I share the same disdain for both that creature and the Purple Dinosaur) and we played outside. We also were exposed to dramatic stories and music that opened up our imaginations. These days, parents and school officials are too over-protective of their children in too many ways and that has a negative effect on things to which they need to be exposed to like arts, culture and history. All may not be lost, at least on the music end. In addition to Davis' brilliant Red Frog Presents, some high-quality and very well-made children's albums were written and performed by the likes of They Might Be Giants (http://www.amazon.com/Here-Come-ABCs-DVD-Combo/dp/B000BEZPSC) and Stan Ridgway & Pietra Wextrum (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0028R3FZU). These creations treat kids as intelligent beings and are just as entertaining for adults as they are for the kiddies. This is a trend that seemed to have been re-started by the Cartoon Network (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/)'s "What a Cartoon" series: kids' cartoons that offer some references for parents so they can watch and enjoy at the same time, while knowing what their little guys and girls are watching (I have commented on the brilliance of "Cow & Chicken (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118289/)" several times as a talk radio host in the past). The artists also brought to their young listeners healthy servings of music they would never been exposed to by mainstream media and the always-fearful child development "professionals" who seem to worship the Elmos of the world. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/martha1-wall-200x300.jpg) In Red Frog Presents, Davis creates a whimsical and fascinating array of characters in songs that span several genres including classic jazz, march, tango, 60s movie kitsch and classical.

Our 2-Year Anniversary Show Podcast Edit Is Up - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:02

(http://eppsnet.com/images/birthday-cake.jpg) Our 3/12 Revenge of the 80s Radio show's podcast edit is up and available at the end of this post. This week, we celebrate our 2-year anniversary by playing our first-ever interview on the show: a conversation with Tracey and Missy Belland of Voice of the Beehive (http://www.voiceofthebeehive.com/), which leads off the second hour. We also feature new music from Gorevette (http://www.myspace.com/gorevette) and Louise Robey (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Louise-Robey/315133096662). In addition, we honor Marc Moreland (http://www.marcmoreland.com/) on the eighth anniversary of his passing with a double-shot of Wall of Voodoo (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Wall+of+Voodoo&x=12&y=13) music showcasing him on guitar. (http://www.voiceofthebeehive.com/gallery/gallerypics/moonback.jpg) I want to thank all of you for your support, for listening to the show and for visiting our website/blog. (http://www.voiceofthebeehive.com/gallery/gallerypics/bandpose2.jpg) Voice of the Beehive (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Voice+of+the+Beehive&x=14&y=13) will always have a special place on Revenge of the 80s and in my heart because Tracey (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=24732971111) and Missy (http://www.madeinheavenbymissy.com/) were nice enough to be my first guest Also, Melissa offered me a lot of encouragement when I discussed the idea with her after an interview we did together on a network business show for which I fill in as a host. I will always be grateful to them for helping launch this program. Tracey continues to write while she teaches music to children in Laguna Beach. Missy hand-crafts fairies and fairy accessories with her business, Made In Heaven by Missy (http://www.madeinheavenbymissy.com/). She has a regular booth at the annual Laguna Beach Sawdust Festival (http://www.sawdustartfestival.org/). She is also a mom of two years to her daughter, Glory. New music for this week's show comes from Gorevette (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0032S9W5Q) and Louise Robey (http://www.myspace.com/louiserobey). Gorveette is getting ready for their first Eastern US and Japan tours (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/?p=771) since Nikki Corvette (http://www.myspace.com/nikkiandthecorvettes) and Amy Gore (http://www.myspace.com/amygore66) started the band. Robey is currently working on a number of projects, including a music anthology box CD set. (http://www.multinet.no/~jonarne/Hjemmesia/Favorittartister/wall_of_voodoo/marc_moreland.jpg) Despite the celebratory occasion, we include a tribute to Marc Moreland, guitarist and founder of Wall of Voodoo. Moreland passed on eight years ago this week. He is remembered by fans for his distinct southwestern Americana-style triplet-centric sound, his own homages to great American songwriters and his imaginative approach to music. We play a Wall of Voodoo double-shot featuring Moreland's guitar-playing during the first hour. We also spun classic alternative cuts from artists including They Might Be Giants (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=They+Might+Be+Giants&x=17&y=16), Julian Cope (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Julian+Cope&x=11&y=23), A-ha (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=A-ha&x=10&y=27), The Little Girls (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0025XWHD8) and Missing Persons (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B00133KDTQ). Revenge of the 80s' ticket giveaway contest for this show is here (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/?p=792). Once again,

Our 3/5 Show Podcast Is Up: Featuring Kate Garner and New Music From Debora Iyall, Martha Davis - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:17

(http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/KG4-300x300.jpg) The podcast edit for our 3/5/10 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the bottom of this post. This week, we feature a conversation with Kate Garner (http://www.kategarner.org/). She, with Jeremy Healy (http://www.myspace.com/jeremyhealyuk) and Paul Caplin (http://www.caplin.com/), formed the trio Haysi Fantayzee (http://www.amazon.com/Battle-Hymns-Children-Singing-Fantayzee/dp/B00004S7JN). Garner is also an internationally-renowned fashion and art photographer, having had several critically-acclaimed shows and exhibits including her most recent, Jolly Darkness (http://www.kategarner.org/). Our interview leads off the second hour of the show. We also played new music from Garner, Debora Iyall (http://www.amazon.com/Condition-Strange-Language-Romeo-Void/dp/B000QJLQN0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1267909351&sr=1-1) and Martha Davis (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=martha+davis&x=20&y=17). Kate Garner was already a respected fashion photographer when she met Healy and Carpin. Their diverse artistic backgrounds proved a unique tandem to create Hasyi Fantayzee, a band best known for their wild outfits and political messages hidden beneath catchy lyrics and danceable music. The band saw quick success with instant hits including "John Wayne is Big Leggy" and "Shiny, Shiny" and were on their way to superstar status. That, as Garner explains in the interview, wound up leading to the quick end of the band as well. Sadly, Haysi was only around to complete one album, thus breaking up the band. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/battle_hymns_for_children_singing-300x300.jpg) After a brief solo stint, Kate continued photography full-time and found herself over time phasing out fashion photography in favor of more dark-artistic creative endeavors. Much of her avant-garde work can be seen on Garner's website, kategarner.org (http://www.kategarner.org/). In 2009, Kate Garner returned to the studio armed with a new talent: she taught herself the ukulele and, in doing so, she created her own sound on the traditional Hawaiian strings. Kate Garner 2.0 begins with her single, "Lucifer," where she features her uke while questioning conventional wisdom about knowledge versus faith. One must also admire her inventive use of white noise in the chorus as well as her intentions with the pace changes toward the end (you will need to hear it to capture the mood). We play "Lucifer" at the end of our interview. "Sideways of Red" is the B-side, which also showcases bold keyboards and Garner's admitted lack of respect for convention beginning with the cold vocal/keyboard combination that hammers in the track. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/katecal1-e1267908535740-201x300.jpg) At one point in our conversation, Garner says she never thought of herself as having a good singing voice, this point was also driven home by her mother, who was an accomplished singer. While far from the conventional standards, she has a vocal range that move from pixie-like to forceful. She can also stretch her voice out to enhance her own singing, whether the music calls for an artistic use of arpeggios, needs the tone changes of a songbird or even a Dale Bozzio-esque squeak. Throughout our conversation, Kate and I discuss several topics, including: * Her early music influences. * How she, Jeremy Healy (http://www.myspace.com/jeremyhealyuk) and Paul Caplin (http://www.caplin.com/) formed Haysi Fantzyzee. * Why, after instant success, the trio broke up after only one album. * Kate's career as both a fashion and art photographer * Our shared philosophy on how boring "normal" really is -- and how that is reflective in Kate's art and music. * Garner's new music and her innovative plans for producing and distributing it.

Our 2/26 Podcast Edit is Up – With an Encore of Our Adriana Kaegi Interview - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:30

(http://images.vimeo.com/11/38/19/113819617/113819617_300.jpg) A blizzard that hit the northeast hard kept me from doing a live Revenge of the 80s Radio show on Friday, but it did allow me to run an encore of the show featuring our 2009 conversation with the multi-talented, elegant and brilliant Adriana Kaegi (http://adrianakaegi.com/). She is best known as a co-founder of Kid Creole and the Coconuts (http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-Vols-Kid-Creole-Coconuts/dp/B002MXA7OM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1267316460&sr=8-1) (with August Darnell (http://kidcreole.com/) and Coati Mundi (http://www.myspace.com/mundiworld)) and leader of The Coconuts. Currently, she is runs her own business, Dear Addy Productions (http://dearaddy.com/), and is working on new music after releasing her first solo album, TAG (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0028EW4TQ). Our interview leads off the second hour of the show. Adriana Kaegi is well known as a performer, choreographer, costume designer, producer and businesswoman. She has also produced the documentary Kid Creole and My Coconuts (http://kidcreoleandmycoconuts.com/), which features behind-the-scenes video, concert footage and excellent narration by Kaegi. The next screening will take place on March 24th at the Phoenix Art Museum (http://www.showup.com/event/detail/440622513); our review of the DVD is here (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/?p=653). This interview was done on March 6, 2009 -- shortly before the release of TAG, which remains a popular Reverb Nation download. A short while ago, Adriana released a new single, "Ive Been Going Out," which premiered on Revenge of the 80s Radio. Our full story on Adriana from last year's conversation is here (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/?p=423). During the first hour of the show, we played classic alternative tracks from artists including Strawberry Switchblade (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B000BZPS0Q), The Alarm (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B000000QFX), R.E.M (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=R.E.M&x=15&y=21). and Mondo Rock (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Mondo-Rock/dp/B0000TCOYQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1267316848&sr=8-1).

Our Revenge of the 80s Valentine’s Love Edition Podcast Edit Is Up - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:00

(http://www.lianyigifts.com/lianyi/uploadfiles/product/200741811125336102.gif) Once again, Revenge of the 80s Radio celebrates the time of amore with a collection of classic alternative love songs. We honor Valentine's day with romantic compositions ranging from the sweet sounds of Robey (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Louise-Robey/315133096662), Allison Moyet (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B000XSLWEC) and The Little Girls (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0025XWHD8) to power ballads like "And As For Myself" by Joey Ramone (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=\nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Joey+Ramone&x=14&y=16). As listeners to Revenge of the 80s know, we don't think all love songs have to be slow either as proven by The Undertones (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=The+Undertones&x=11&y=14), Dramarama (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Dramarama+&x=10&y=17)and Voice of the Beehive (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Voice+of+the+Beehive&x=24&y=13). We also know that there could never be a romantic classic-alt Valentine's Day show without Elvis Costello (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Elvis+Costello&x=11&y=17) and ABC (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0015YFOK6). We also celebrated love and romance with music from artists including Men Without Hats (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Men+Without+Hats&x=18&y=22), Animotion (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Animotion&x=16&y=19), Doug and the Slugs (http://www.amazon.com/Slugcology-101-Doug-Slugs/dp/B00008FWO1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1266082011&sr=8-1-catcorr), Colin Hay (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Colin+Hay&x=5&y=16), and Kirsty McColl (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0007KLLBU). Happy Valentines Day from Revenge of the 80s Radio.

Our 2/5 Podcast Is Up With a Tribute to Lux Interior - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 53:34

(http://www.inquisitr.com/wp-content/lux-interior.jpg) The podcast for our 2/5/10 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the end of this post. This week, we pay tribute to Lux Interior a year after his passing with a block of music by The Cramps (http://www.thecramps.com/). We also played new music from Adriana Kaegi (http://adrianakaegi.com/). Lux Interior and wife/musical partner Poison Ivy Rorschach founded The Cramps on 1976 and created a sound that was to become the Psychobilly (http://www.wreckingpit.com/index.php3) musical genre. Interior's somewhat eerie vocal style and stage presence made him one of the faces of the New York punk scene. Their signature twang solidifies Poison Ivy's place among the industry's greatest guitarists. The Cramps' impact on music history may be immeasurable and their influence will continue on with many alternative musicians today and in the future. Fans will continue to miss The Cramps and hearing Interior's voice, as there may never be another band like them. (http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/AK-Out1.gif) We also played Adriana Kaegi's latest single, "I've Been Going Out (http://adrianakaegi.com/)," and classic alternative tracks from Big Country (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Big+Country&x=19&y=13), Altered Images (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Altered+Images&x=6&y=18), Wall of Voodoo (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Wall+of+Voodoo&x=14&y=23), REM (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=REM&x=13&y=19), INXS (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=INXS&x=18&y=26), Josie Cotton (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B000WCBR7Q), Laibach (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-music&field-keywords=Laibach&x=14&y=21) and more.

On this week's Revenge of the 80s Radio show, we feature new music from Gorevette (http://www.myspace.com/gorevette), who a few days ago released their first EP, Lustfully Yours (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0032S9W5Q). We also played another previously unreleased recording from August Darnell (http://www.amazon.com/Going-Places-August-Darnell-1976-1983/dp/B0013UL4G0) (Kid Creole), who is currently working on his upcoming anthology album. Gorevette is a creation of Detroit's Nikki Corvette (Nikki and the Corvettes) and Amy Gore (the Gore Gore Girls), who teamed up to form a new collaborative supergroup with Gore's former bandmate Lianna Castillo and Powertrane's Al King. At the time of this post, Gorevette and their fans are celebrating the release of Lustfully Yours with a series of weekend parties/concerts (http://www.myspace.com/gorevette). According to Grevette's management, the band is planning a potential tour through Japan, where Nikki Corvette re-established her following there after coming back onto the music scene with Ramo Records a few years ago after a long absence. (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Tn3huAudp2U/SxnwSu-r10I/AAAAAAAAE_U/FGKWJVwWQRI/s400/GOREVETTE.jpg) We also showcased classic alternative tracks from Romeo Void (http://www.amazon.com/Never-Say-Hits-Rarities-Gems/dp/B000IFSGLW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264881583&sr=1-1), Stan Ridgway (http://astore.amazon.com/reveofthe80sr-20/detail/B0028R3FZU), Haysi Fantayzee (http://www.amazon.com/Battle-Hymns-Children-Singing-Fantayzee/dp/B00004S7JN/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264732674&sr=8-2-catcorr), Strawberry Switchblade (http://www.amazon.com/Platinum-Collection-Strawberry-Switchblade/dp/B000BZPS0Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264881612&sr=1-3), The Undertones (http://www.amazon.com/Anthology-Undertones/dp/B001DZA416/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264881633&sr=1-2), Icehouse (http://www.amazon.com/Man-Colours-Icehouse/dp/B00006IRJU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264881660&sr=1-1) and The Alarm (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Alarm/dp/B000EHQ7ZG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264881681&sr=1-1) as well as a 2008 track from Martha Davis and the Motels (http://www.myspace.com/marthadavis) and "I don't Subscribe," a previously unreleased song form August Darnell (http://www.reverbnation.com/augustdarnell).

(http://www.blurtit.com/var/question/q/q6/q63/q631/q6314/q6314465_1109622_michael-hutchence-inxs-1986.jpeg) The podcast edit of our 1/22/10 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the end of this post. We also featured a track from Boston-are musician Digney Fignus (http://www.digney.com/), whose 1984 video for "The Girl With the Curious Hand" not only won an MTV Basement Tapes contest, he cast model Gail Huff (http://www.thebostonchannel.com/station/282828/detail.html) -- now a newscaster who is married to Massachusetts newly-elected Senator Scott Brown (http://www.brownforussenate.com/) -- as the central character in the entry. Fans and friends mourned the death of Michael Hutchence in 1997 when he was found dead in what was called a suicide. As frontman for INXS, he became the face of Australian New Wave in America, opening a wider audience to the likes of Mental As Anything (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-As-Anything-Anniversary-Eition/dp/B0026IZUHM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264267957&sr=1-1), Pseudo Echo (http://www.amazon.com/Long-Plays-83-87-Pseudo-Echo/dp/B00000733I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264267979&sr=1-1), Icehouse (http://www.amazon.com/Singles-Icehouse/dp/B00000711C/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268001&sr=1-10), Midnight Oil (http://www.amazon.com/20-000-Watts-R-S-L-Greatest/dp/B000002C4D/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268037&sr=1-1) and others. This week, three fans (Jim Guest, Michelle McFerran and Matt Marsland) created and coordinated a campaign to give Michael Hutchence a #1 download song for his 50th birthday (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=232609958138&ref=ts). There is also a brilliantly-done Michael Hutchence Tribute Website here (http://www.michaelhutchence.org/). In memory of Hutchence and his contribution to new wave history, we played a full set of some of his greatest work with INXS during part of the second hour of the show. (http://mtv.mtvnimages.com/uri/mgid:file:gsp:alias:/mva/MV/M11/295/0295M11/MVA_IM_0295M11_35369_050.PNG) One of the songs featured in the first hour is "The Girl With the Curious Hand," by Digney Fignus, a Boston-area new waver who is now an alt-country/Americana music star. The video for his 1984 single won him a record contract, new equipment and other perks in MTV's "Basement Tapes" contest. The piece is experiencing a new level of fame thanks to the lead woman in the video, Gail Huff. While she is already a well-known TV news anchor, she is also married to Scott Brown, who won the U.S. Senate seat belonging to the People of Massachusetts in a special election on January 19, 2010. While neither the song nor Fignus found much airplay or record sales as a result of the MTV exposure, a few uninterrupted listens to the track reveal its brilliance and the reason why Fignus still has a strong following today in the northeastern U.S. We also featured a new track, "Come Back To Me," form The Little Girls (http://www.amazon.com/Thank-Heaven-Valleypop-Little-Girls/dp/B0025XWHD8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268205&sr=1-4) and classic cuts from Aneka (http://www.amazon.com/Aneka-Track-Full-Hansa-1981/dp/B002YBONXI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268226&sr=1-2), Wall of Voodoo (http://www.amazon.com/Index-Masters-Wall-Voodoo/dp/B000AY9ORG/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268254&sr=1-4), the Hoodoo Gurus (http://www.amazon.com/Magnum-Cum-Louder-Hoodoo-Gurus/dp/B000008GMH/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268284&sr=1-5), Kirsty McColl (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Kirsty-MacColl/dp/B0009WXGDM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1264268324&sr=1-1), Nik Kershaw

The Podcast for our 1/15/10 Show Is Up; with a Spotlight on Rikki St. James - Revenge of the 80s Radio – Hour 2 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 54:42

(http://www.revengeofthe80sradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/rikki.jpg) The podcast for this week's Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the end of this post. Joining us for the show is Rikki St. James (http://www.myspace.com/rikkistjames), who made a brief, but memorable mark on the new wave/alt-dance scene. Not much is known about Rikki St. James aside from her co-writing and singing the song "Yaya (http://www.amazon.com/Yaya/dp/B001E6QYCC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1263653532&sr=8-1)" on Ron Rogers' (http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Play-With-My-Emotions/dp/B001E6SYHU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1263653586&sr=8-3) Don't Play With My Emotions (http://www.amazon.com/Dont-Play-With-My-Emotions/dp/B001E6SYHU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dmusic&qid=1263653586&sr=8-3) EP from 1981. The song is as fun and danceable as its origins are interesting. St. James talks about how, as a young up-and-comer, she met Rogers and some good people at Ze Records, who gave Rikki her first shot in the business. She talks about how "Yaya" was originally part of a chant remembered from her younger years and conceived over a Blimpie's (http://www.blimpie.com/) sandwich. We also talk about Rikki's musical background, breaking onto the industry from her point of view and what she is doing today as we introduce our airing of "Yaya" on Revenge of the 80s Radio. (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61FZij41LcL._SL500_AA280_.jpg) We also play cuts from classic alternative artists including The Coconuts (http://www.discogs.com/Coconuts-Dont-Take-My-Coconuts/release/112232), Josie Cotton (http://www.amazon.com/Invasion-of-the-B-Girls/dp/B000X9NINO/ref=sr_shvl_album_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1263654532&sr=301-3), Mondo Rock (http://www.cduniverse.com/search/xx/music/pid/6495105/a/Essential+Mondo+Rock.htm), The Clash (http://www.amazon.com/London-Calling/dp/B00138J234/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1263654611&sr=301-1), ABC (http://www.amazon.com/Look-Love-Very-Best-ABC/dp/B001NZXFE4/ref=sr_shvl_album_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1263654632&sr=301-1) and Doug & the Slugs (http://www.amazon.com/Slugcology-101-Doug-Slugs/dp/B00008FWO1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263654656&sr=8-1-catcorr).

(http://www.soultrainonline.de/Ausgabe005_Interview_KidCreole1.jpg) The Podcast for our 1/8/10 Revenge of the 80s Radio show is up and available at the end of this post. We wanted to kick off 2010 with something different, so we celebrated with two previously unreleased songs from August Darnell (http://www.amazon.com/Going-Places-August-Darnell-1976-1983/dp/B0013UL4G0), better known as Kid Creole (http://kidcreole.com/). In the summer of 2009, Darnell contacted Coconuts Co-Founder Adriana Kaegi (http://adrianakaegi.com/), asking her to fine-tune several tracks (http://www.reverbnation.com/augustdarnell) that he had in his studio, but never released and for her help in bringing them to fans of the band. These cuts are now available to fans on Darnell's Reverb Nation web page (http://www.reverbnation.com/augustdarnell); we feature one of them in each hour of this week's Revenge of the 80s. In hour 1, we play "Are You Bad Enough," a feisty reggae-ish track with a generous serving of the classic Kid Creole attitude. Hour 2 is the soulful, yet funky "Yesterday's Child." We are happy to be the first radio program to air any of Darnell's previously unreleased material and we plan to feature more in the coming months. (http://www.hipvideopromo.com/images/sub/bands/josie_cotton_jump.jpg) We also played classic alternative music from Voice of the Beehive (http://www.amazon.com/Let-Bee-Voice-Beehive/dp/B000001FGQ/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145601&sr=8-6), The Alarm (http://www.amazon.com/Best-Alarm/dp/B000EHQ7ZG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145631&sr=1-1), Jason and the Scorchers (http://www.amazon.com/EMI-Years-Jason-Scorchers/dp/B001AGGUGG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145655&sr=1-2), The Belle Stars (http://www.amazon.com/Very-Best-Belle-Stars/dp/B0000273KR/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145680&sr=1-3), U2 (http://www.amazon.com/No-Line-Horizon-U2/dp/B001O0EQ5U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145703&sr=1-1) and INXS (http://www.amazon.com/Swing-INXS/dp/B000002JKJ/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145729&sr=1-10) as well as "Kung Fu Girl," a piece from Josie Cotton's 2006 CD, Movie Disaster Music (http://www.amazon.com/Movie-Disaster-Music-Josie-Cotton/dp/B000H5VIHW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1263145760&sr=1-4).

It is available for download now at Adriana's official internet store (http://adrianakaegi.com/) and her Reverb Nation (http://www.reverbnation.com/AdrianaK) page. Adriana's new electronica lounge music single is a collaboration between her creative mind with that of Ronnie Bruce Rogers, who produced the song with her. Adriana's enchanting voice and personal charm shine with well-placed jazzy keyboard riffs and subtle horns throughout the track. "I've Been Going Out" is s bit more up-tempo them the music from TAG, and is yet another showcase of Adriana's all-around talents as a performer and musician.
