Seventeen Ways to Keep Your Audience Engaged! | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Tell Personal Stories. The formula for the body of a speech is: Make a point, tell a story reinforcing that point. Make it a personal story, not someone else’s story that many have heard. People love stories of overcoming obstacles, persistence, and adventure. Telling them well will keep people listening and engaged.  The AFTER-Duction: Write. . . | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

I’ll bet you’ve been to a presentation and experienced this: The master of ceremonies takes the microphone immediately after a speaker finishes their talk and says, in an underwhelming manner, “Thanks for coming. Have a safe drive home!” WOW! That’s a memorable take-away, isn’t it? NOT! Ending a valuable presentation program like that is unfortunate. Regrettably, this anti-climatic way to draw to a close, a great message from a speaker, is often the norm. It’s done this way because no one, especially the master of ceremonies and others in charge of the event, thought about a better way to end it. I bring you Good News – There is! I walked over to introduce myself and started by saying, “Man! I like that tie!” We shook hands and he told me his name was Marc Dangerfield. I next related a bit of the story about why my radar was up for gents with bow ties. “I wear it for my dad,” was his response. “Wow!” I exclaimed. “That sounds like a story.
