Tell Personal Stories. The formula for the body of a speech is: Make a point, tell a story reinforcing that point. Make it a personal story, not someone else’s story that many have heard. People love stories of overcoming obstacles, persistence, and adventure. Telling them well will keep people listening and engaged. I’ll bet you’ve been to a presentation and experienced this: The master of ceremonies takes the microphone immediately after a speaker finishes their talk and says, in an underwhelming manner, “Thanks for coming. Have a safe drive home!” WOW! That’s a memorable take-away, isn’t it? NOT! Ending a valuable presentation program like that is unfortunate. Regrettably, this anti-climatic way to draw to a close, a great message from a speaker, is often the norm. It’s done this way because no one, especially the master of ceremonies and others in charge of the event, thought about a better way to end it. I bring you Good News – There is!
