Black Talk Radio Member Spotlight - Nabraska: Poet – Radio Host - Entreprenuer | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

Tonight my guest will be Black Talk Radio member Clarence Barbee aka Nebraska who is a poet, radio host and entrepreneur who hails from Omaha, Nebraska. He began writing poetry in the eighth grade at age 13 and at the request of his Language Arts teacher, he composed the NAACP Martin Luther King celebration prize-winning poem entitled Survive on Hate. In 2000, after graduating from Clark Atlanta University, he began getting involved in spoken word. He started out performing at local venues such as Club Kaya, calling himself Nabraska, in homage to his birthplace. Late in that same year he networked with four other poets and completed a compilation CD. They called themselves A Group Called Karma and Nabraska produced two of the albums titled Shakespears in the Alley and Verb. A Group Called Karma performed at the Marietta Black Arts Festival in 2001, doing an original piece composed by Clarence entitled Rights. In 2003 Nabraska went back to the studio with a friend who played upright bass, and they combined to create Open Field. After a successful audition, he performed a piece entitled Open Letter to Sammi at Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn Festival. Clarence’s main influence came from writers such as Claude McKay, Zora Neale Hurston and Langston Hughes. Nabraska describes his writings as philosophical and societal, using social issues as a basis and platform to engage the thought process for his audience. He is still very active in the Atlanta spoken word scene performing at several local venues but also travels throughout the United States to perform.

NC State Representative Larry W. Womble - Reparations For Victims of Admitted NC Sterilization Prog | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 01:00:00

State Rep. Larry W. Womble was born June 6, 1941 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Educated in the public school system of Forsyth County and later earned his B.S. degree from Winston-Salem State in 1963. He also holds degrees from University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Appalachian State University. Rep. Womble's public service career began when he was elected to the Winston-Salem Board of Aldermen to represent the Southeast Ward. A position he dutifully served from 1981 through 1993. He has represented the 71st District in the North Carolina General Assembly or five consecutive terms since 1995. He has been adamant to his constituents and the state in making North Carolina the best possible place for the people of North Carolina to live. Larry is a proponent of strong family values and having a sense of community commitment. A North Carolina State House panel on November 18, 2008 pushed to offer reparations to the victims of a forced sterilization program that mainly affected poor black women after 1960. Sterilization programs were widespread across the United States until after 1945. Many states were embarrassed because of the similar programs run by Nazi leader Adolph Hitler. Rep. Womble has been working on this issue for several years and was the primary sponsor of the legislation that officially apologized for both slavery and the Jim Crow system that replaced it in NC. Rep. Womble has said that "I'm glad that North Carolina has done more than any other state to step forward and not run away from it.” speaking on North Carolina facing its issues of the past. The full NC General Assembly will meet in January 2009 and will have to approve panel’s recommendations before any reparations can be paid out.  Black Talk Radio This Week Member Spotlight | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:45:00

Welcome to the Black Talk Radio Network member spotlight show with your host Scotty Reid aka One Black Man! The first half of the show we will be speaking to new BTRN member Homer T. Williams Jr. Mr. Williams is a musician who wants to bring good music back to the mainstream. Homer T. Williams, Jr. is an Arranger, Composer and Producer who was born May 5, 1961. Music was a part of Homer’s life very early. At the age of 5 his talent for percussion was obvious, at nine years old becoming a member of the Wicomico Youth Orchestra the violin became the next in a long series of instruments that Williams would make his own. Soon he would discover the keyboard and it wasn’t long before original orchestrations were swirling around this complex young man’s mind. 2 years into his formal training Homer was piecing together intricate rhythms and melodic string patterns far beyond his teachers. Gifted with an ear for beautiful orchestration and spirit driven rhythms, Williams now blends God given talent with technology to create a sound like no other. Get his music now on CD Baby! We hope that you will tune in as we spotlight this talented brother and feel free to call in.  Special Report: Bush-Rove IT Guru Killed In Plane Crash Before Testifying | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:45:00

Michael Connell was the chief IT consultant to Karl Rove and created websites for the Bush and McCain electoral campaigns. Michael Connell was deposed one day before the election this year by attorneys Cliff Arnebeck and Bob Fitrakis about his actions during the 2004 vote count in Ohio and his access to Karl Rove's email files and how they went missing. This deposition may have thwarted plans for another election steal by Republicans. For the cynics: Conspiracy - 1. the act of conspiring. 2. an evil, unlawful, treacherous, or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons; plot. 3. a combination of persons for a secret, unlawful, or evil purpose: He joined the conspiracy to overthrow the government. 4. Law. an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act. 5. any concurrence in action; combination in bringing about a given result.
