Podcasts:

 Episode 44: World War Z (2013) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 48:21

Brad Pitt said he made this movie for his kids, which is code for "cut me some slack, I know this movie is horrible." SFRP review: 1 star Also, stick around because in the second half of the show we continue last weeks talk about Man of Steel. Enjoy.

 Episode 43: Man of Steel (2013) and The Master (2012) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:03:28

Superman stands for all that is good about America, which now apparently includes chocking to death our enemies in the battlefield like Sup does to General Zod in this movie. That aside, still, overall, pretty good movie. MacReady Review: 3 1/2 stars. DOUBLE HEADER! This week we also talk about The Master, which is sci-fi-ish given that it deals with Scientology--maybe a bit of a stretch, but not too much. Also, Amy Adams stars in both Man of Steel and The Master so there's that too. SFRP Review: 5 stars.

 Episode 42: After Earth (2013) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:13

Will Smith's first movie not to open at #1 in a while--why I should care about that, I'm not really sure. Anyway, people seem to really hate this movie, but MacReady gives is a "solid 2 stars." Enjoy. SFRP Review: 2 stars.

 Episode 41: Star Trek into Darkness (2013) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:04

We pretty much hate everything about this movie--it's Star Trek in name only. Please, somebody, don't let J.J. Abrams ruin Star Wars too. SFRP review: 1 star.

 Episode 40: Young Frankenstein (1974) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 44:52

Don't be embarrassed of your messed up heritage, embrace it. It's probably not as messed up as you think. Or maybe it's worse than you think. But don't be embarrassed, because that's no way to live your life. SFRP review: 5 stars. Here's the Putting on the Ritz clip.

 Episode 39: Sleeper (1973) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 55:52

For a guy who's been frozen for 200 years, Miles Monroe (Woody Allen) seems to take it okay. A little bit of George Orwell mixed with a little bit of Benny Hill, Sleeper is Woody Allen's fifth directing effort and second collaboration with Diane Keaton. McReady review: 4.5 stars. Dr. Blair review: 5 stars.   To our loyal listeners: This week we tried changing our format a bit, with more changes to come--hopefully you'll adapt as well Miles Monroe adapted to the 22nd century.

 Episode 38: Never Let Me Go (2010) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 43:53

This week our podcast hits rock bottom. It's pretty much unlistenable, unless you're drunk or stoned or something. If you're still interested, try fast forwarding 15 minutes or so. You see, MacReady took it upon himself to read his long-winded review of the film out loud for the first 15 minutes of the podcast. And let me tell you, it is pretty much excruciating to listen to. Too bad really. Never Let Me Go is a great movie. We see this week as a turning point in our podcast--no place to go but up or something. So enjoy this, and come back soon for the new and improved SFRP--or not. It's your life. Review: 4.5 stars. Jacko's Corner: Also, for all you Jacco fans out there (we've been getting a lot of e-mails), here's a special Jacko-McReady only discussion (it takes a minute to load): http://tinyurl.com/ctjhcas

 Episode 37: Frank & Robot (2012) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:31

The day will come when robots eventually enslave us. But before that day comes, robots will take care of our elderly. McReady: four stars. Dr. Blair: five stars.

 Episode 36: Iron Man 3 (2013) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:29:59

Iron Man 3 is an examination of "blow back." It questions the impact of America's military adventures abroad, American exceptionalism, and even the consequences of being a bully in our personal lives. It also glorifies violence using endless, incomprehensible (and boring) CGI sequences and sarcastic one-liners. In other words, it is rehashing what you saw in Iron Man 1 and 2--with the noticeable exception of trying to make amends for using Gwyneth Paltrow's character as a door mat up until now. 2 Stars.

 Episode 35: Barbarella (1968) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 46:15

Free love, psychic sex, boy toys, sex toys. Does all of this sound like a Dr. Blair pool party to you? Well, maybe, but we are actually talking about this surprisingly tame movie, which (despite touching upon all of these topics) is less erotic than a Calvin Klein advertisement. And to think, I thought I was getting away with something watching this. 2.0 Stars

 Episode 34: Oblivion (2013) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: Unknown

Join us this week as we discuss Tom Cruise's latest sci-fi epic, where Tom wrestles with himself and a few deep existential issues while traversing a bleak post-apocalyptic landscape. Nothing we never saw before, but you know. It looks cool. 3.75 Stars

 Episode 33: G.I. Joe Retaliation (2013) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 41:07

Please let us tell you what you probably already know and what we expected before we sat down in the theater. This movie is not very good. In the words of the great Roger Ebert, "It sucks." Good bye Roger. 1 star

 Episode 32: Cloud Atlas (2012) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 58:25

Chances are that you may have missed this one. Well, don't let your mistake echo on in the eternities. See this now. Cloud Atlas is not just ambitious or bombastic or a "gorgeous mess" as it has been called, it a true work of art. It is unlike anything you have ever seen at the movie theater before. 5 Stars (SFRP Hall of Fame Film) You think I am hyping this too much? Well, let me just say just one more caffeine infused statement. This movie will help you better understand your fellow man and feel more optimistic about life. It does this without being preachy or failing to do what great films must do: entertain us with incredible storytelling. The only real regret I have about this week's episode is I should of chosen this as the opening song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR2yoCNIZlk

 Episode 31: Back to the Future (1985) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:06:58

It's another big one folks. This week we review the classic Back to the Future and explore the wonderful work of Robert Zemeckis. Come share a flashback or two with us as we discuss the greatness of Michael J. Fox and ponder the fate of some of his talented (and perfectly cast) costars. What ever happened to the guy who played Biff? SFRP review: 5 Stars (SFRP Hall of Fame film)

 Episode 30: Idiocracy (2006) | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:17:10

Mike Judge is, "responsible for one the greatest cultural contributions of the 21st century" (Beavis and Butt-head) according to David Letterman. We think he is responsible for more than just one. Join us as we explore what is possibly the greatest satirical sci-fi comedy ever made. SFRP review: 5 Stars (SFRP Hall of Fame film)
