 Episode 341 – Disney Conspiracy Theories | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 51:18

This week, I thought I should share the Youtube channel of the slo-mo guys; a couple of fellas with a decidedly destructive bent who like to film their shenanigans at stupidly high video frame rates. Through the week, I tried Glynn’s suggestion of inverting the pixel data on a layer of a manually-stitched panorama. I […]

 Shutters Inc – episode 317 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 52:32

This week, Canon is going after grey market sellers in the U.S.. Remember the guy last week who shot his Vegas Vacation witht he Go-Pro facing the wrong way? Well, Zappos (a Las Vegas-based shoe retailer, decided to walk the same path and shoot the video the way it was intended. After some lens flare in your DSLR images? Have we got the product for you! Cutting edge technology this week includes Panasonic's forthcoming 'Post Focus' feature, and Lytro give us 'Depth Editing'. For the travelling photographer looking for backup storage options, how about a 1TB SSD which can withstand 1500G's? And some downloadable maps might be helpful whilst you're travelling, too! Glynn also came across this great app called Solocator (available on both Android and iOS) which will allow you to take photos of land and/or buildings and know exactly which way the camera was facing at the time of capture. Luminous Landscape is changing to a subscriber model, for the quite reasonable price of $1/month. And it turns out, Canon tried to buy Sigma, but Sigma weren't interested. We chatted about meetup #30 for the Sydney Photographer's Meetup group, and one of my Facebook friends, David Taylor, had these wise words to share: Recommendation to photographers: Don't ask people if they like a black & white version or a color version of the same photograph. Whose vision are you trying to fulfill? It isn't your art, if you expect it to be vetted by someone else. The choices you make - exposure, depth-of-field, lens selection, filter use, "post production", etc. - these are your creative choices, and they determine how others view & receive your work. Decide for yourself, share, and let go. But share YOUR vision. Don't cater to someone else's. Be an artist. I received an e-mail through the week from the guys creating Stand-in baby; a lifesize, posable mannequin for helping photographers learn abouth what poses work for newborn and infant photography. They have a Facebook page and a group, and promise a kickstarter project in December 2015. Somehow, I don't think Glynn's irreverence was the kind of 'exposure' they were hoping for! Adam sent us the story about the guy who built the

This week, Nikon breaks the "rules" by announcing that they're working on a D4 replacement. You'll NEVER guess what they're going to call it! A Pulitzer Award-winning photographer gets fired for cloning out another photographer's camera, while Reuters issues a worldwide ban on photographer's submitting images processed from RAW files. Glynn came across this video which fools the eye into seeing colour from b+w images. Beating sadness and depression with photography. It HAD to happen. We now have ways to tame those pesky drones. The augmented reality printer for iOS, and some guy reckons that Lightroom is not up to snuff for handling RAW files. Whatevs. Adam sent us a bunch of stuff, including this collection of youtube videos on portrait retouching in Photoshop, Pentax looking to please the astrophotography crowd, the horrible story of an innocent Sikh man whose bathroom selfie got manipulated (to include him holding a Quran, and wearing an explosive device), Cold War shenanigans with weather balloons, weird 'rolling shutter' artefacts, and becoming a selfie-stick-ninja. Reg alerted us to the fact that Adobe, having seen the error of their ways, has reintroduced the useful import dialogue box into Lightroom, the hilarious story of the "reverse GoPro", and Canon records people's eye movements as they view a portrait. And Carl sent us the story of why Brian Smith believes the mirrorless system will become universal. Comments will be closed after 30 days. Love the podcast?  Shutters Inc – episode 315 | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1:12:29

This week, Glynn likes the new Moo cards with their built-in NFC capability, plus there's the Quantum ‘film’ sensor, which promises a move away from silicon (sounds like the digital imaging equivalent of a crystal radio set!), Breakthrough Photography's ,X3 circular polariser. Thinking of going mirrorless? This guy thinks every single mirrorless camera is missing something (but it's a different 'something' between each one). Glynn also dug out a couple of Joe McNally videos you might like... (01|02). There's the story of the photojournalist who voluntarily removed himself from the Walkley Awards, after being shortlisted for an image that he'd done some minor touchup work on. Retrofitting lenses to fit on your dslr, and look how far we've come. This blog post compares Canon's D2000 (a $30,000 camera when it was released) with today's current 5Ds. Rupert axed 500 jobs at NatGeo the day he took the reigns. Pass the camera project #2 is almost ready for take-off. If you'd like to get on board, join the Facebook group pronto! Carl sent us a link to a great article about how to improve the responsiveness of Lightroom. the story of the photographer travels across the US with his camera, his girlfriend, and an LED Hula Hoop, and this portfolio of selfies from Mark Rodriguez. He (and Adam) also sent us the video about the decoy portrait session. Adam found some stupidly overpriced trinkets from Leica, a video shot ON the moon at the time of the first landing, tips for travel backup plans (which thankfully DON'T include a certain optical drive!), the photograher trying to sue Universal Pictures for unlawful use of his image, and a lengthy video on how the US military trained its photographers in 1965.
