Slater and Parkinson were among the big names that fell when competition resumed at the 2013 Rip Curl Pro presented by Ford on Monday. In pristine three-to-five foot (1 - 1.5 metres) conditions, three rounds of competition were completed with some incredible surfing coming from the Brazilian contingent of the ASP World Championship Tour. Injury Wildcard Willian Cardoso (BRA) beat Kelly Slater (USA) in the major upset of round three. Standouts Jordy Smith (ZAF) & rookie Nat Young (USA) surfed incredible heats advancing to the quarter-finals with a combination of innovation and power.
