Bible in the News

As the nations of the world are arming and being prepared to take up the positions described for them by the prophets Daniel and Ezekiel, an exit door is being prepared to remove Britain from Europe.

Time Magazine's "Person of the Year" is Putin. Russian's are hailing it as a victory and no doubt--whether intended to or not--it will boost Putin's popularity.

This is the Bible in the News; and this is Paul Billington at the desk to offer some comments about it.It has been an interesting week again in many respects, but among all the news stories a really significant one has been the landslide election victory for Vladimir Putin in Russia. As reported by the Associated Press:

This is the Bible in the News with Paul Billington commenting on it--and of course, the news that most Bible believers are watching right now, is the one-day long Annapolis summit and its results. Exactly what, if anything, has this hyped-up event achieved?

This is The Bible in the News with Paul Billington; and the Bible certainly is in the news this week! As many will know, Ezekiel chapter 38 speaks of Russia coming "against the mountains of Israel" (see verse 8). So the news that Russia is to send a shipment of armoured vehicles, plus 1,000 rifles and TWO MILLION rounds of ammunition to Palestinians in the West Bank (the mountains of Israel) can hardly go unnoticed by the Bible believer. This, surely, is a token of things to come.

Welcome to another edition of the Bible in the News. This is Paul Billington bringing you this week's edition--and as we look at the news headlines this week, we have to stress just how important it is that we do NOT leave the Bible out of the news! To do so could, and probably would, lead us to make all kinds of wrong conclusions.

This is the Bible in the News with Paul Billington back at the desk this week looking at his Bible, as well as at what is happening out there making the news.

This Friday November 2nd is the 90th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. This is David Billington with the November 1st edition of the Bible in the News. On October 31st, 1917 in the third battle of Gaza led by the British General Allenby, the British succeeded in braking through the Turkish defenses at Beersheba. A key engagement in that battle was a bold charge by 500 members of the Light Horse Regiments of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACS), into the Turkish lines in Beersheba. This event was reenacted in Beersheba this past Wednesday with great fanfare. On November 2nd, 1917 the British government issued the Balfour Declaration by way of a letter from British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour to a British Jewish leader named Lord Walter Rothschild, who was to inform the Zionist Federation.

It was just over 14 years ago, that then Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin shook hands with Arafat, in what was supposed to be the road to peace. Yesterday was 12 years since Yitzhak Rabin was murdered after a peace rally in Tel-Aviv. The official story is that Rabin was assassinated by a right wing religious Jew, however many Israelis question this story today. In fact, in a poll done by the Israeli paper Ma'ariv, today nearly half of the religious public (46%), and well over a quarter (28%) of the public at large, believe that Amir was not the culprit and 30 percent of Israelis support a future pardon for Yigal Amir the convicted killer. A video of the assassination was shown on Israeli TV near the time of the murder but has not been shown since. It is widely available on the internet and is known as the Kempler video. It raises some questions about the murder such as: Why does the camera keep focusing in on Yigal Amir the convicted assassin several times before the murder, while he is allowed to stand, unguarded and by himself in a sterile security area? There are also claims that the video was obviously doctored.

The United States and Russia are forming two alliances, one in the North and one in the South. These alliances will eventually clash as the Bible predicts in Ezekiel 38 and Daniel 11.

By surrendering their national sovereignty and switching to the Euro, the once weak nations of Europe are gaining economic power as a unit. Nations all over the world have to pay attention to the economic clout of the European Union and the tentacles of its regulations.

The growth of Russian spending on its military points toward the soon fulfillment of Daniel 11 and Ezekiel 38. Putin looks to become PM to hold on to power... God has other ideas that are laid out in the prophets.

Why would anyone be in favour of a Palestinian state? Hi, this is David Billington with the Bible in the News. Today according to Israel National News some 30 mortar shells and rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel. There have been a daily stream of rockets falling on Israel from Gaza, ever since Israel pulled out from there 2 years ago. They are indiscriminately fired at Israeli towns and Kibbutzim hitting businesses, homes and schools. Before the pullout the Israeli governments mantra was that after we leave Gaza we will have a free hand to severely respond to any attack--with world support.

This is David Billington with you for this weeks Bible in the News. The song you just heard is about Elijah the prophet, the words are: Elijah the prophet, Elijah the Tishbite, Elijah the Gileadite, may he come to us soon in our days with Messiah the son David. This week we will step back and consider in a little more detail some of the scriptures concerning the preparation of Israel for the Kingdom of God. As we watch events on the world scene, looking for signs that indicate that the return of the Messiah, King of Israel is near, we often consider events in Israel. We may often wonder how a modern nation like Israel can become the righteous nation that keepeth the truth--a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. How can a nation that is ignorant of the truth as it is in Jesus and for the most part the things concerning the restoration of the kingdom to Israel, under the son of David, understand these ideas?

Originally Produced December 2006This is the Bible in the News with Paul Billington talking with you this week about Iran, Holocaust denial, and the response to it by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Centre in Jerusalem. To many of us, denying the Nazi Holocaust of World War II is only possible if you are a crank--a madman--and obsessed by a hatred of reality as well as of the Jews. It is hard to understand the mind of someone who would blind themselves to all the accumulated evidence that there is. Yet that is what Iran has engaged in. As we will know, President Ahmadinejad of Iran not only denies the fact that six million Jews perished in the Nazi Holocaust, but he wants to repeat the terrible crime by (in his words) wiping Israel off the map. Israel, incidentally, has about 6 million Jews today--so he really does intend to match the exploits of Adolf Hitler!
