Today, even though it’s a Thursday, we’ve given Frank a day off to spend some time analyzing the portfolio. Specifically, we wanted to invest some time in going through our overall portfolio levels, in terms of [delta](https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/from-theory-to-practice/episodes/total-portfolio-deltas-12-19-2016), [theta](https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/from-theory-to-practice/episodes/portfolio-theta-part-one-10-26-2016), and [buying power](https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/shows/wdis-options-101/episodes/buying-power-reduction-02-16-2017). A handful of our favorite stocks to trade are getting ready to report their quarterly earnings, so "trading earnings announcements" is the topic du jour on the Ryan and Beef show. The guys explain what we focus on, how we set up the trades, and their thoughts on risk/reward going into these opportunities. After presenting their thoughts on trading earnings announcements they also explain why even if a stock is reporting earnings, it doesn't mean we can't sell premium in a different expiration, beyond the announcement date. In the 4 major stock indices and index ETFs, we typically witness high [IV Rank](https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/learn/measuring-implied-volatility) in all 4 at the same time. However, the Nasdaq has recently exhibited higher IVR, while the others remained low. Does this occur often? Our Research Team looked at past data to determine the frequency of rich IVR in only one ETF. ###Analysis * SPY, IWM, QQQ, DIA * 2005-Present * Calculated IVR data * Observed occurrences where 1 Index was above 50 IVR while any or all of the other indices were below 25 ### Results * Recently, the Nasdaq has exhibited substantially higher IVR than the other 3 indices * This is an unusual phenomenon that has not occurred too often over the past 12 years To learn how to incorporate this information into [order entry](https://www.tastytrade.com/tt/learn/order-entry-checklist) and strategy selection, tune in to the segment.

In this segment, Tom and Tony look at the makeup of SPY as it relates to Value and Growth, as well as how this shifts in bull and bear markets. A **value stock** is one that is often underpriced relative to its peers. A **growth stock** is one that tends to increase in value, rather than yield high income. Historically, value typically outperforms growth, but lately, growth stocks have outpaced value. The spread between Russell Growth Index and Russell Value Index has not been this high since 2001. So, how can we trade this information? Tune in as Tom and Tony interpret the results.
