Content is a fundamental part of what Esri delivers. Some of the work is being done by Esri and some by the user community. The City of Charlotte, NC, explains how contributing to a community basemap benefits the organization as well as users. Bern Szukalski provides an overview of ArcGIS Online basemaps including World Topographic Map, World Street Map, and World Imagery. He shows how these and other basemaps can be accessed through the basemap gallery picker with ArcGIS Explorer Online.

See how to find content at ArcGIS.com. Demo highlights World Topographic Map and shows how layers can be added to create a new map. This new map is shared publicly with everyone and can be opened in the ArcGIS.com Viewer, ArcGIS Explorer Online, or ArcGIS for Desktop for a richer GIS experience.

Jack Dangermond highlights key initiatives at Esri. A new GIS Portal Web site helps users discuss problems and vote on where they think Esri should go in its development. Esri is extending mobile, desktop, and the cloud with other capabilities, such as local government and defense templates. Jack announces a new Social and Community Analysis initiative. He also talks about Technical Support, the global partner network, special relationships, and GIS in education, and conservation.

ArcGIS 10 is a system that can be used anytime anywhere – on desktop in the office, or anywhere in the field or through the cloud. The demo shows productivity enhancements in ArcGIS for Desktop such as direct access to ArcCatalog from within ArcMap, easier searching for content, and a new parcel toolar. Field staff can access a new Mobile Project Center that lets them download maps created in ArcGIS for Desktop, and web editing tools are now more intuitive and easy to use.

Bob Pool, GIS Manager at Clark County, Washington, shows how he automates a developer packet template using the new map scripting environment. Esri’s map scripting environment is incorporated with Python script so that developers can write and develop code and immediately see the results.

Imagery is an important component of ArcGIS 10. With the ArcGIS for Server Image extension, massive volumes of imagery files, such as satellite and aerial data, can now be accessed very fast. The demo shows how a seamless mosaic is rendered dynamically on the fly. Multiple sources a brought together and interpreted at the same time. Users can also now see changes over time by merging information from different timelines.

Demo shows how ArcGIS Network Analyst is used to solve a location-allocation problem for a city’s health care service. The goal is to limit patient’s travel time to 6 minutes and determine the impact of the addition of new clinic locations. Also see how new ArcLogistics Online is used to create optimal routes for a fleet of vans, and how ArcLogistics Navigator provides drivers with in-vehicle route directions.

Understand your community based on a particular location. Learn what’s the lifestyle, population, age, household income, and education level of a location. Compare this location with another location (San Diego vs Burlington, VT). Demo also shows ArcGIS for iOS accessing ArcGIS Online basemaps and maps authored by others. Get your maps out to a larger audience.

See how 3D GIS is used to analyze virtual city models to consider the impact of a proposed redevelopment project. The 3D editing environment provides answers about visibility concerns and the impact of building shadows on neighboring buildings. The results are shown on a map and can also be accessed using an app on a mobile device such as an iPad, to retrieve building attribute information.

See how the use of time-aware tools in ArcGIS is applied to helping with the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. See how the response effort has changed over time, and watch how time aware capabilities are used to track vessels and do boom placement. The demo also shows the incorporation of real-time feeds, social media feeds, and live GPS feeds into a map to help first responders pull information from the community.

It will provides details on how and best practices of publish images services directly from any raster dataset as well as publishing Mosaic Datasets using the Image Extension for ArcGIS for Server. The session will also highlight different methods to access such images services in different applications including Desktop, GeoProcessing Tools, ArcGIS Web Mapping APIs, and using OGC Standards.
