The beautiful weather here in New England inspired this week's podcast. Of special note is the trio of Perez, Patitucci and Blade from their new album Children of the Light. The trumpets stand out in this podcast with Joe "Mags", Terell Stafford, Sean Jones and Nat Adderley (with brother Cannonball). Lots of others as well, like some new grooves from Manuel Valera, Ed Fast's Conga Bop and a classic from McCoy Tyner.

Once again we run the gamut of jazz styles in this podcast. Of note is Joshua Redman with the funky Elastic Band and collaborating with The Bad Plus. Some organ grooves are laid down in CD's led by Joe Magnarelli and Don Braden. Wayne Shorter's rhythm section of Perez, Pattucci and Blade is one of the great creative forces in jazz. More from my Monday Morning radio jazz show. We begin with 70's fusion era jazz with Weather Report, Freddie Hubbard and Stanley Clark. That is followed by new music from Anat Cohen and local favorite Craig Hartley. We finish this set with a "Blues Groove" from the great Jimmy McGriff and Hank Crawford.

This podcast features two jazz giants, Charles Mingus and Phil Woods. These greats are sandwiched between some new creative jazz artists, notably trombonist Peter McEchern's No Chordtet and the young amazing Josh Evans.

A podcast of mostly new music to WWUH studios. Young trumpeter from the Hartford area Josh Evans starts this show. We also hear John Scofield's new album featuring Joe Lovano. Detroit drummer Sean Dobbins leads and organ quartet. The podcast concludes with a new fusion release from veteran Jeff Lorber. Somewhere in the middle is the only non-new CD as George Garzone and the Fringe channel Trane.

We speak with Noah Preminger about his new album Pivot: Live at 55Bar. Pivot is heavily influenced by the music of the Delta Blues. This album takes two compositions by blues legend Bukka White, and Noah's quartet improvises with grit and determination on these themes.

The feature of this podcast is alto sax player Kenny Garrett, but first I review some of the great music heard at the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival. We hear from young pianist Joey Alexander and drummer Antonio Sanchez.

We've got some creative modern jazz in this week's podcast. Shirantha Beddage's low and slow baritone and Vittorio Mezza's creative piano and arrangements highlight this show. Those are followed by an extended big band arrangement from Jason Lindner and Lovano's Us Five quintet. The podcast concludes with a Metheny/Coleman collaboration, for a progressive free jazz show.

This podcast features mostly new music from great modern jazz artists. Of note are a couple of tracks each from Hartford based trombonist Steve Davis and pianist Luis Perdomo. The final track is a cool jazz standard from Miles' muted horn.
