As CubCast co-host Aaron Derr says, “There’s nothing like the first time you take your son to the shooting range, and after you hear them say, ‘Always point the gun toward the target,’ your kid is the first one who spins around and the gun spins around with him and everybody has to duck.” So we thought it might be a good idea to have Dennis Kampa, author of the BALOO training, join us to explain how shooting sports can teach Cub Scouts valuable life lessons incorporating the Scout Oath and Law.

The Webelos-to-Scout graduation ceremony is the pinnacle of a boys’ journey through the Cub Scout program. But first, as leaders, we need to ‘do our best’ to get him excited about his new adventure as well as work with local Boy Scout troop leaders to ensure a smooth transition. The lovely Jennifer Mooney, camping director with the Cascade Pacific Council in Portland, Oregon, joins us to help calm any anxiety you may be feeling about camping … in the woods … with a group of 8-year-old boys. The Scout Oath begins with Duty to God. The Scout Law ends with reverence. So it should be no surprise that Duty to God is such an integral part of Scouting. But what may be an eyebrow raiser is that the Duty to God element of the Cub Scouting program has been updated. Why change it? Fifteen-year Cub Scout volunteer, Kee Ostler tells us it’s, “like tending a garden.” Find out what that means by clicking the Download button.

Robert Baden Powell, the founder of Boy Scouting, said, "The uniform makes for brotherhood, since when universally adopted it covers up all the differences of class and country." But what exactly do we mean by “uniform”? Is it the official blue or maybe the same T-shirt? Northern Star Council Scout Executive, John Andrews joins us for the answers and shares a great tip on how to be sure all the boys in your pack are dressed for success.
