They are actively working through some key challenges that include projecting enduring facility requirements two years ahead of current operations, building temporary facilities in the Hold/Build of COIN, fostering ministerial development and engineering leadership/knowledge that has not been used in generations, educating U.S. and sponsor country leadership on the balancing of efficient and effective execution. Kem will talk about a key enabler to a successful and self-sustaining Afghan National Security Force-Professional Military Education at the Afghan Defense University. The physical site for the Afghan Defense University is approximately 20 percent complete, but many of the institutions and programs that will migrate to ADU upon its completion already exist, including the National Military Academy of Afghanistan and a comprehensive literacy program. Kem will share how ADU will unite the professional military education opportunities for the ANSF in one premiere location, which will include a Literacy Village, National Military Academy of Afghanistan, and Senior Service College. ADU represents not only NATO's enduring partnership with Afghanistan, but NTM-A's commitment to leader development and education for ANSF now and in the future.

DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable with Brig. Gen. Michael R. Boera, commander of the Combined Air Power Transition Force, the organization charged with developing military and police air power for Afghanistan. Brig. Gen. Boera has recently returned from a trip to the United States with General Mohammad Dawran, the commander of the Afghan National Army Air Corps. While traveling together, Generals Boera and Dawran visited groups of students and military leaders, presenting the message about recent advances in their effort to build a professional, independent, and capable "air force" able to meet Afghanistan's security needs for today and in the future. Brig. Gen. Boera is available to discuss the outcomes of this trip and other questions related to the development of air power in Afghanistan. Read Transcript

DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable with Maj. Gen. Stephen Lanza, United States Forces-Iraq Spokesman. Maj. Gen. Lanza will discuss significant progress made by the Iraqi Security Forces, and how their contributions have improved the overall security environment in Iraq paving the way for the seating of the Iraqi government and setting the stage for a long-term strategic partnership between the sovereign nation of Iraq and the United States of America. On June 1, two important milestones - both symbolic and substantive - occurred in Iraq. First, the United States formally transitioned the last nine checkpoints it jointly staffed in the International Zone, or Green Zone, to Iraqi Security Forces. Second, the Iraqi Supreme Court announced the certification of the March 7 election results, a critical step in the process of peacefully forming the new government. The overall improved security situation today and the ever-increasing capabilities of the Iraqi Security Forces are directly responsible for these two accomplishments. Read Transcript

DoDLive Bloggers Roundtable with U.S. Army Col. Curt A. Rauhut, Director, NATO Financial Controller/Deputy Director, CJ8 for Wednesday, June 9 at 1030 EDT. Col. Rauhut serves as financial controller of the NATO Common Fund in support of Crisis Establishment (CE) billets within the command. He provides financial oversight and management of donor nation contributions into the NATO Trust and Sustainment Fund in support of the Afghanistan National Army, and works closely with SHAPE HQ's and ISAF HQ's in determining funding policies. As CJ8 deputy director, Col. Rauhut helps manage a joint multinational 60 person staff, and asists in the management and execution of the Afghanistan Security Force Fund. Additionaly, he provides resource management advice to the commander and staff, and assists in the supervision of resource management operations to include contract requirements, budget formulation and execution.
