Don't forget to stop by HebrewPod101.com for more great Hebrew Language Learning Resources! -------Lesson Dialog------- ----Formal ---- יהודה עמיחי יהודה עמיחי נולד ב-3 במאי 1924 בעיר וירצבורג שבגרמניה, ונחשב לאחד המשוררים המודרניים הגדולים של ישראל, ולא רק בארץ, אלא בעולם כולו. עמיחי היה נצר למשפחה יהודית אורתודוכסית, ולמד בארץ את השפה הגרמנית וכן את העברית. בגיל 11 היגר עם משפחתו לפלסטינה המנדטורית, ושנה לאחר מכן עבר לירושלים, בה למד בבית הספר הדתי "מעלה". לאחר לימודיו התגייס לפלמ"ח, הכוח הצבאי הסדיר של ארגון ההגנה, בפלסטינה המנדטורית, והתנדב לצבא הבריטי בזמן מלחמת העולם השנייה. לאחר שחרורו, החל ללמוד במכללה לחינוך ע"ש דוד ילין. לאחר מכן למד באוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים, בה שכנעו אותו מרציו לנסות לפרסם את שירתו. בשנת 1955, הוא אכן עשה זאת בספר הביכורים שלו "עכשיו ובימים האחרים". מאותו יום והלאה, פרסם עמיחי אינספור כתבים, ובהם רומנים דוגמת "לא מעכשיו לא מכאן", ואוספי שירה אחרים. בין עבודותיו - A Life of Poetry, Songs of Jerusalem and Myself, ו-Time. סגנון הכתיבה הייחודי של עמיחי משתעשע עם צלילי המילים. עמיחי נישא פעמיים והוליד שלושה ילדים. בשנת 2000 הכניעה אותו מחלת הסרטן. ----Formal English---- Yehuda Amichai Born on May 3, 1924, in the city of Wurzburg, Germany, Yehuda Amichai is acclaimed as one of Israel’s top modern poets, not only within the country but also throughout the entire world. He belonged to an Orthodox Jewish family and learned to speak both German and Hebrew while growing up. At eleven years of age, he immigrated to Mandate Palestine with his family, and a year later they all moved to Jerusalem, where he attended the religious high school Ma'Aleh. After high school, he became a member of the Palmach, an elite force of the Israeli community’s underground army in Mandate Palestine, and voluntarily joined the British Army during World War II. After he was discharged, he went on to study in Jerusalem at the David Yellin Teachers College. Later he studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he was persuaded by his professors to try to publish his poetry. In 1955, he did just that when his debut book "Now and in Other Days" went into print. From that point on, Amichai had numerous writings published, including novels such as "Not of This Time" and "Not of this Place" and other collections of poetry. Some of his works included "A Life of Poetry," "Songs of Jerusalem and Myself," and "Time." Amichai's unique writing style plays with the sounds of words.
