There is no doubt that Gueuze, the beer blended from unsweetened lambic, is the only way to end this series on sour ales. This spontaneously-fermented wild ale is as complex and unique as any style in the world. Able to age for decades, and lovingly described as funky, cheesy, burnt rubber, and even dirty diaper, these beers are worth seeking out.
The Belgians may have invented sour beer, but the American's have embraced it, and are pushing the style further and further.
We've neglected sour beers for too long, so for the next three or four shows, we are going to focus on the best sours the world has to offer. Up first, Flanders Red Ale, including one which Michael Jackson called the most refreshing beer in the world.
