In this Hawaii Hypnosis podcast I had the chance to interview my friend and colleague Kelley Woods about using Hypnosis for children. CLICK TO TWEET I personally have never had a problem using Hypnosis for children.  I have heard that many people do worry about working with children.  Maybe I don't because I'm a big kid myself ;) Why use Hypnosis for children?   Why not?  Kids imaginations are already on fire!  Use this to your advantage.  Get them to engage their imagination in even more powerful ways. The people who are scared of using hypnosis for children probably aren't playful enough. Kelley gives a couple of really good tips for using hypnosis for children. When you're working with children, make sure to treat them as your equal.  Everyone likes to felt understood. Boy oh boy did I ever luck out! I found out that Steve Andreas NLP training legend from Real People Press was here on Kauai! In this Hawaii Hypnosis podcast I got the chance to talk to one of the early originators of NLP.  Steve is a very caring person, with a somewhat crude sense of humour ;) I'm sure anyone that has been to a Steve Andreas NLP training can probably attest to his corniness! I think you're really going to like Steve's views on what Hypnosis actually is.  This kind of falls into the realm of "Everything is Hypnosis" vs "nothing is Hypnosis". Being able to have 2 hours to talk to some of the old schoolers in Hypnosis and NLP was totally awesome! If you get the chance to train with Steve and Connirae make sure you take advantage of this.  They are some of the most down to earth people that I know. Aloha!  In this Hawaii Hypnosis Podcast I've interviewed Mark Tyrell. Much like Bruce Lee and Milton Erickson, his approach seems naturalistic and formless. Mark is one of the founders of Uncommon Knowledge and Hypnosis Downloads. I wouldn't advice you to listen to this podcast until you're ready to learn how to create the best hypnosis scripts. How to create the best hypnosis scripts Himself and a few other Hypnotherapists have come up with a formula to create the best hypnosis scripts. How to create the best hypnosis scripts you ask? First off no sensible hypnotherapist would do a live session without a pre-talk.  Some of the best hypnosis scripts use have some sort of pre-talk.  Why not start inducing trance with the pre-talk ;)  Get their expectations high and pace their current experience. So if they are listening for help to quit smoking or overcome panic attacks, use truisms in your pre-seeding part of the induction.   You can do this by talking about universal experiences common to most people who have struggled with these issues-this is a way of gaining rapport with the listener, creating a kind of ‘yes set’ even though you don’t know them individually. For example all/most smokers know that sometimes they feel controlled by smoking and the same is true of people prone to panic attacks. Don’t spend to long on obvious “deepeners” as a conversational naturalistic induction should be a kind of organic deepener in itself.   but don’t be hidebound by having to be ‘Ericksonian’ or conversational because some more obviously structured induction does work for some people. Pepper your language with nominalization ‘hypnotic’ words, embedded commands, illusory choice, presuppositions and all the other usual language skills available to hypnotherapists. Hypnotize through presenting compelling ideas rather than just relying the language or voice tonality. Be creative.  Stories are compelling and hypnotic-tell stories even if it’s the ‘story’ of how they are going to free themselves from smoking. Don’t ‘beat them over the head’ with direct repetitive suggestions.  This is the mark of an inexperienced therapist-the mind is infinitely subtle so, sometimes, you need to present ideas and suggestions indirectly through the ‘my friend John technique, analogy and metaphor as well as implication. Never read scripts to clients-use scripts for ideas/inspiration rather than as a rapport breaking barrier inducing turn off. Imagine going to a MD and having him/her read to you rather relate directly to you as a human being! The best hypnosis scripts being recorded - watch these two in action ;) Mark Tyrrell and Joseph Kao hard at work in the studio.  If you want to create a really good hypnosis script these are the guys to    learn from.  Over 600,000 people have taken their email courses since 2000 when they launched their online business.  Keep in mind that each one of their hypnosis scripts has four highly trained therapists working on them.  Each download and script is designed by 4 people to ensure its a work of art. Most hypnosis recordings attempt a "wham bam thank you mam" type of approach.  They are designed with a very direct and linear approach.  There are certain basic human needs that need to be addressed.  The best hypnosis scripts use a very well rounded approach.   "The Internet is awash with web sites which offer hypnosis products and services that have not been created by experienced professionals, nor are they based on current research-based practices. Some of these programs are of limited or no use, while others may do more harm than good. Have you joined the Hypnothoughts Forum yet? In this Hypnosis Podcast I talk candidly with Scott Sandland.  This podcast provides a behind the scenes look at one mans mission to unify the Hypnosis community.  The Hypnothoughts Forum is Scott's gift to the community. Hypnothoughts was born out of the need for a unified hypnosis community.  While there are many forums, the Hypnothoughts forum is the largest. There are now close to 11,000 members as I write this.  Its no wonder why Scott Sandland is extremely busy ;)  I would like to suggest that you join hypnothoughts and join in the fun!  As a member of the hypnothoughts forum you'll be amongst the movers and shakers in the Hypnosis community! The Hypnothoughts forum just turned 5 years old! I can only imagine how great Scott feels.  Watching something you created growing up and evolving.  One of the things you're really going to love about the hypnothoughts forum is how well everyone works together.  Sure there are squabbles from time to time.  This is normal in life.  There is something different about this forum... People act like adults.  The horror! ;)  Sure once in a while someone pushes someone elses buttons.  At any rate the forum runs pretty smoothly.  Unlike most online communities, the hypnothoughts forum is largely self moderated.  Meaning this... The members, all 11,000, are good about respecting everyone else.  I have been a member of a ton of Hypnosis forums.  Its also no surprise to me that most of these have fallen by the wayside.  Most of those forums are dinosaurs long gone.  Why is this?  I'm guessing that some Hypnosis organizations have kept the community scattered.  Divide and conquer. Hypnosis organizations and the Hypnothoughts forum All too many times a Hypnosis forum sides with a particular certifying body.  This is not the case with Hypnothoughts.  People are there to learn and network with one another.  Most if not all of the certifying bodies have a presence on the forum.  The hypnothoughts forum is not used by certifying boards to scare Hypnotists. "The major medical institutions are jealous and scared of hypnotists" Really?  Do you honestly think they are jealous of us?  Hypnotists for the most part are struggling.  Are they jealous that a hypnotist got a weekend training?  Are they jealous that hypnotists weren't taught ethics or about Scope of Practice? Are they jealous of the low amount of clients that most hypnotists see? The certifying boards do a good job of ensuring that they will constantly make profits.  Has it ever occurred to you that this happens because the training standards haven't been raised? These boards are for profit companies. If the training standards were raised no one would need these Certifying bodies. We would have much more support from the major medical institutions.
