Jesus Christ: The Greatest Hero of All Time | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 2498

Sunday Evening Evangelistic Message #112 TEXT: John 20:19-23 Every now and then, we hear about someone being called a hero because of something great that they do. A firefighter who charges into a burning building to rescue a child, soldiers who risk their lives for their country in battle, a doctor who pulls off a risky medical procedure -- all of these are hailed as heroes. But, there are many heroes who go unnoticed and who are not applauded by the world. These unsung heroes simply do what is in their power, and then fade into history. Over the past few days leading up to this Resurrection Sunday, we have been looking at the unsung heroes of Easter -- those characters who are critical to the Easter story, but who are often overlooked. We have looked at Pilate's wife, Simon of Cyrene, Mary the mother of Jesus, John the disciple who loved Jesus to the end, the Roman Centurion, Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus, and Mary Magdalene. Each of these unsung heroes played an important role in the Easter story, but each of them would tell you that the real hero of Holy Week is the one who rose from the dead on Easter Sunday -- Jesus Christ, the ultimate hero. Jesus Christ is the greatest hero of all time because He died for the sins of the world and rose from the dead by the power of God on the third day. But He didn't stop there. He immediately gave his disciples and us peace, power, and purpose. He gave us something that we all crave and that is purpose in life and peace and power to accomplish it. + Plus, listen to Nicole C. Mullen singing "Redeemer" and Jeremy Camp singing "This Man"

Three Truths About the Rapture | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 1400

TEXT: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Last week, we began looking at the topic of the Rapture. That is the next step in the time line of the last days, when Christ will call his church out of this world and up into glory to be with Him. We saw what Christ is doing in Heaven while he tarries -- he is “preparing a place” for us to join him one day soon. First Thessalonians 4:13-18 is the passage in the Bible which tells us most clearly about the Rapture. Let’s look at this passage and see three truths that God wants us to know about this great event. 1. Death is not really death. Paul writes to the Thessalonians, “I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep...” The Thessalonian believers were expecting Jesus Christ to return quite soon, and they had become concerned about those Christians who died before the Rapture. They were under the impression that those believers had missed out on the rapture because they died before it happened. Paul writes them to set their minds at ease regarding this matter. 2. We will rise physically as Jesus rose physically. Verse 14 of our passage states, “If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." This is one of the greatest truths in all of Scripture. Just as death could not hold Jesus, death cannot hold us. Just as Jesus rose from the dead, we will rise again as well. 3. Christ will return in person to take us out of this earth. Verse 16 of our passage states, "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God..."
