Paleo-Cinema Podcast
Summary: A great podcast about movies before 1980, crime, exploitation, classics, science fiction, exploitation and other genres. I look at movies trying to understand what makes them tick, where they come from and to do cinematic archaeology on film.

For 124 I look at two famous films, one of which I have just seen for the first time. Firstly, we have the 1946 Raymond Chandler novel adaptation, The Big Sleep starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, directed by Howard Hawks and then the 1962 epic, Lawrence of Arabia starrig Peter O'Toole and the deserts of the Middle East. We have feedback as well. The email address is kultguru@gmail.com and the voicemail number is 206 3377721,
This time around, I'm looking at one of the best regarded movies of all time, Hitchcock's 1958 tale of death, heights and dual identity, VERTIGO and a forgotten film about black revolutionaries in 1960s Cleveland Ohio, Jules Dassin's UPTIGHT. The voicemail number has changed too. It's now 206-337-7721.

This time I'm checking out a couple of classic films from European directors, Firstly, there is the Max Ophuls 1948 movie Letter From An Unknown Woman starring Joan Fontaine and Louis Jordan and then we go to one of the all time classics of any cinema anywhere, Le Regle De Jeu, (Rules of The Game) directed by Jean Renoir. Yes, I am out of my depth with these movies, but I'm doing it anyway.

This time around we have two very different films. The 1954 Pacific Island adventure flick His Majesty O'Keefe starring Burt Lancaster and Andre Morell and then the 1969 comedy The Magic Christian starring Peter Sellers and Ringo Star. We go from copra plantations on the island of Yap to Yul Brynner lipsynching in drag. Can't ask for much better than that.

This time I take a look at three movies about lethal children from the early 1960s. The first is Village of the Damned, starring George Sanders and Barbara Shelley. The second is the sequel cum remake of it, Children of the Damned from 1963 starring Ian Hendry and Alan Badel and finally, an unrelated film: Joseph Losey's 1961 (released in 1963) Hammer film (These Are) The Damned. All have lethal children in them, all three take a different approach to the subject.
