Dear Dr. Burton, when a Christian makes a promise and either partially performs or completely fails to fulfil that promise ... is that a lie and how does God view such things? What if it happens not just once or twice but over and over again. Even if the excuse, not to fulfil the promise was legitimate, can a Christian break a promise if the excuse is something that he or she had control over?
