EX18 - Featuring - Autograph - Make Sure You Sign In Please - Two featured Songs - Turn Up The Radio and Friday | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:08:51

EPISODE 18 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! The band began in 1983 originally as a solo project for singer-songwriter/guitarist Steve Plunkett (also known as "Plunk"), who had recently left the band Silver Condor, due to his frustration with their lack of interest in recording his songs. Plunkett then began playing and recording his own material with a group of his musician friends, most of whom had previously played with him in other bands.   On lead guitar was Steve Lynch, who had played with Plunkett in the band Looker, and who has a distinctive two-handed, fretboard-tapping technique, which eventually won him the "Guitar Solo of the Year" award from Guitar Player magazine for his work on Autograph's signature song, "Turn Up The Radio." Bassist Randy Rand knew Plunkett from their days together in Wolfgang, a club band in Los Angeles, which has been described as a local legend and of which Kevin Dubrow (lead singer of Quiet Riot) said, "They smoked us all.... They got better response than us and Van Halen." Steve Isham, keyboard player and longtime friend of Plunkett's, had earlier played with Holly Penfield, and on drums, Plunkett called on Keni Richards, his bandmate from John Doe, and whose friendship with Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth led to Autograph's big break.  Over time, this group of musicians recording together took the form of an actual band. Plunkett chose the name "Autograph" for the band, having been inspired by hearing Def Leppard's similarly-titled song "Photograph" on the radio.  They recorded their first demos in late 1983, but gave copies of the demo to a few friends only. One of these friends, Andy Johns, a record producer, played their demo for David Lee Roth of Van Halen, who subsequently invited the band to open for them in their 1984 tour. The band rose to prominence as an opening act for Van Halen on their 1984 tour, an act of distinction for an unsigned band. Autograph signed a contract with RCA Records following a performance at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1984.   Two songs from Sign In Please Autograph - Turn Up The Radio Autograph - Friday Podcast created by TrueMediaSolutions.ca

EX16 - Featured - Turning Up The Heat With Firehouse and these two songs - Don't treat me Bad and Love of a Lifetime | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:10:17

At the 1992 American Music Awards, FireHouse won the award for "Favorite New Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Artist".[7] Two great songs Firehouse - Don't treat me bad - acoustic In our interview with FireHouse frontman CJ Snare, he explained: "Sometimes songs really are personal and sometimes they really, really aren't. I remember sitting down at the piano and coming up with that chord progression, but it sounds really different on piano, obviously, than it did on guitar. I had the first verse, bridge, and chorus, and then I brought it to the other guys in the band and we hammered out the rest of the song. Mostly Bill [Leverty, guitarist] and myself." Firehouse - Love of a lifetime CJ Snare had not yet formed FireHouse when he wrote this song. He had a gig playing solo in a hotel lounge with a keyboard and drum machine. One night after his set, he came back to the lounge, enjoyed some free beer, and came up with the song. This song almost didn't make the album, since CJ Snare didn't want to introduce it to the band. Part of his trepidation came from some bad medicine Jon Bon Jovi gave him: The singer told CJ that it would ruin his career if he released the song. ___ The Add To My Playlist Website Have a podcast and need a great website?  EX15 - Two Songs about a small town - Miranda Lambert's Famous in a Small Town and John Mellencamp's Small Town | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:10:10

EPISODE 15 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! Shout out to all those from a small town! In high school I lived in a town of 500 people - everyone knew everyone! "if you haven't heard a rumor by noon, Start one!" was one of the first lessons that I learned!  Yes, living in a small town has some disadvantages - like, we didn't have a stoplight or a drive thru - I had to drive to larger community with my driving instructor to experience that!  The one thing that I loved about a small town was the community!  Being known, cared for and recognized was a great benefit of small town life!  So, if you are listening to this today, and you find yourself in a small community, these two songs celebrate you!  You are the star of this episode! Two songs today for you - Miranda Lambert - Famous in a small town and John Mellencamp - Small Town "Famous in a Small Town" is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist Miranda Lambert. It was released in April 2007 as the second single from her album Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It was Lambert's second Top 20 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2008. The song was written by Lambert and Travis Howard. The song was ranked number 40 on Engine 145's 50 Best Country Songs of 2007 "Small Town" is a 1985 song written by John Mellencamp and released on his 1985 album Scarecrow. The song reached #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and #13 Adult Contemporary.  Mellencamp wrote the song about his experiences growing up in a small town in Indiana, having been born in Seymour, Indiana, and living in Bloomington, Indiana, which, at the time of the release of the song, was larger. The music video has references to both towns. We would love to hear from you!! ___ The Add To My Playlist Website Have a podcast and need a great website?  EX14 - The Certified Guitar Player - Tommy Emmanuel and his two songs - Blue Moon and Angelina | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:10:10

EPISODE 14 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! Featured - The Certified Guitar Player - Tommy Emmanuel and his two songs - Blue Moon and Angelina Two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel is one of Australia’s most respected musicians. The legendary guitarist has a professional career that spans five decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. A household name in his native Australia, Tommy has garnered hundreds of thousands of loyal fans worldwide. Tommy’s unique style – he calls it simply “finger style” – is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass, and drum parts, Tommy plays all that – and more – on one guitar. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try this “fingerpicker” style as a child.  Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel’s biggest fans. In 1980 Emmanuel made a trip to the United States and finally met and got to play with his hero, Chet Atkins, in Nashville.  From that magical moment forward, the Tennessee master guitarist and producer took the twenty-something Australian ace under his wing and began introducing him to other guitar legends. Tommy speaks of his mentor with the love and gratitude of a son and Atkins’ influences are evident throughout his music and personal philosophy. Emmanuel’s technical precision, his virtuosic improvisations and his unusually broad repertoire – which encompasses not only country and bluegrass, but pop, jazz, blues, gospel, even classical, flamenco, and aboriginal styles – bespeak Chet Atkins’ legacy.  EX13 - In Memory of Taylor Hawkins - The Foo Fighters - Two songs, On The Mend and My Hero | File Type: audio/mpeg | Duration: 00:10:10

EPISODE 13 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! Recently we lost a great musician - Oliver Taylor Hawkins (February 17, 1972 – March 25, 2022) was an American musician, widely known as the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters, with whom he recorded eight studio albums between 1999 and 2021. Before joining the band in 1997, he was the touring drummer for Sass Jordan and for Alanis Morissette, as well as the drummer in the progressive experimental band Sylvia. Dave Grohl found a kindred spirit, friend and comrade in Taylor - their mutual admiration for each other was displayed in interviews, on and off stage and in the music.  Dave said in a past interview about his first meeting with Taylor.... "The first time we met, we were at some radio show backstage, and he came up with a beer in his hand. He’s like, ‘Hey, man, what’s up? I’m Taylor, I play with Alanis Morissette. Dude, I love your record, it’s so cool!’ He was such a spaz. I was like, ‘Wow, you’re either my twin or my spirit animal, or my best friend!’ In the first 10 seconds of meeting him. And, of course, I’d seen him play the drums, and I thought he was an amazing drummer.” This episode of The Add To My Playlist Podcast highlights two songs - a song written by Dave dedicated to Taylor called Foo Fighters - On The Mend Foo Fighters ft. Shane Hawkins Perform - My Hero Thanks Taylor, for the music lives on. ___ The Add To My Playlist Website Have a podcast and need a great website? E06 King's X is an American Rock Trio and featuring two songs - We Were Born To Be Loved and The Difference (in the Garden of St. Anne’s In this episode of The Add To My Playlist Podcast, we focus in on the amazing, Kings X King's X is an American rock band that originated in 1979 in Springfield, Missouri. They were first called The Edge and later became Sneak Preview before settling on its current name in 1985. The band's current lineup has remained intact for more than three decades, consisting of vocalist and bassist Doug Pinnick, drummer Jerry Gaskill and guitarist Ty Tabor. Their music combines progressive metal, funk and soul with vocal arrangements influenced by gospel, blues, and British Invasion rock groups. Despite a largely underground reputation as the "musician's musicians", King's X was pivotal in the early development of progressive metal, From the Faith Hope Love album - King’s X is a 3 piece band that have some of the most intricate arrangements both musically and vocally - for me the end of this song is a masterpiece - the pauses, hesitations, breaks and runs just make me smile - start at the 3:00 minute mark… 3:37 has a great drum break, the song ending just keeps going and going and going - this is the Energizer bunny song for sure! King’s X - We Were Born To Be Loved For something completely different, and to demonstrate the versatility of this band check out my favorite acoustic tune from King’s X - this tune has rich rich rich harmonies!  This is a master class on acoustic guitar arrangements. EX05 - Anysley Lister UK’s hottest contemporary blues guitarist with two songs, Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) and Free In this episode of the Add To My Playlist Podcast we feature Aynsley Lister. Aynsley Lister is one of the UK’s hottest contemporary blues guitarists – many consider him to be among the best in the world. His unique brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary songwriting fueled with the kind of heart and soul that’s missing from so much modern music. Whether passionately writing and recording his own material or mesmerizing audiences at his live shows, one thing is abundantly clear: music is hard-wired to his DNA and flows from his fingertips like sonic bolts of lightning. With over 100,000 albums sold, lashings of critical acclaim and years of high profile touring, Lister’s resumé speaks for itself and firmly secures his position as a leading light in the resurgence of British blues-infused music. Lister started playing guitar at 8 and played his first concert in a bar band at the age of 13. He had learned guitar by playing along to his father's old 45s of Freddie King, John Mayall and Eric Clapton. By the time he was 18, having already been in several bands, he formed his own, which recorded two albums - Messin' With The Kid (1996) and Pay Attention! (1997). “Music is a release for me.  When I play I get lost in it and it's a very happy place to be”  - Aynsley Lister Aynsley Lister - Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) As a fender strat guitar player, I really enjoyed Aynsley’s version of Prince’s Purple Rain - Spotify suggested it to me awhile back and i fell in love with his version! EX04 Featuring: Susie McLean an artist I have played with and her two songs Sing Your Song and ‘Till the Morning Comes  This episode features: Susie McLean! I had the unique pleasure of helping Susie form a band here in Ontario for select performances - I played bass and guitar for Susie’s live shows. We had an amazing live band and we had the opportunity to play at Indigo’s in Toronto as well as Niagara area wineries! From Susie’s site - For me, it all started with music. Growing up in a household where Gospel music was the norm, I quickly connected to music which led to playing piano and songwriting. Susie was nominated for an original piece she wrote called “Sing Your Song'' at the Independent Music Awards and another nomination as “Best Jazz Artist” at the Toronto Independent Music  Awards. Susie can be heard across Canada at every Chapters Indigo on their in-store playlist. On top of a great musical career, Susie is also a professional actor!  From Susie’s imdb page: Susie McLean is an actor, known for Pixels (2015), High-Rise Rescue (2017) and Beauty and the Beast (2012). As mentioned, this first song for your playlist is Susie’s original song - Sing Your Song.  A great relaxed jazzy tune - such a beautiful song. Enjoy! Susie McLean - Sing Your Song This second song was always fun to play live - I always loved the light gallop to the tune and when the drums kicked in the song would lift into a nice groove - this was a great song to perform live.  The ending always made me a little nervous - I only had one shot to hit that final walk at the end of the song!! Susie McLean - ‘Till the Morning Comes Please add Susie’s songs to your playlist - enjoy one of Indigo’s featured artists right here on Spotify Susie’s links: https://www.susiemclean.com/ @addtomyplaylistpodcast on all social platforms podcast presented by True Media Solutions
