Summary: WHAT IS ACT-SO? Aca­d­e­mic, Cul­tural, Tech­no­log­i­cal and Sci­en­tific Olympics (ACT-SO) a major youth ini­tia­tive of the NAACP. It is a pro­gram to encour­age, rec­og­nize, and reward aca­d­e­mic and cul­tural achieve­ments among African-American high school stu­dents through local and national com­pe­ti­tions. Com­pet­i­tive cat­e­gories include the Human­i­ties, Per­form­ing Arts, Sci­ences, and Visual Arts. WHEN WILL THE 2011 ACT-SO COMPETITION TAKE PLACE? The Philadel­phia NAACP ACT-SO Com­pe­ti­tion will be held in Philadel­phia, PA on April 30, 2011. First prize local win­ners will go on to com­pete in the National NAACP ACT-SO Com­pe­ti­tion which will take place in Los Ange­les, CA on July 20–24, 2011.
