Stealth Weapons for Preppers – Airguns

Summary: Often overlooked in the discourse on prepper armaments, airguns can be a valuable resource for procuring crisis food, particularly in urban and suburban settings. At close range, out to perhaps 50 yards, a good airgun will readily kill small game, such as squirrels, pigeons and rabbits. Some online airgun forums even discuss killing larger animals, such as bobcats, raccoons and feral hogs with airguns. These larger animals are all killed at relatively close range with accurate shots between the eyes. Stealth Weapons Airguns are not to be confused with your spring-fired Red Ryder BB gun. These are precision weapons costing from about $130 up to more than $500. They operate on compressed air, either compressed by a piston within the gun, or a co2 cartridge or a pressure recharge from an external pump or scuba tank. These serious guns operate at velocities from 650 to 1200 feet per second. Common calibers are .17, .22 and .25. The larger calibers operate at slower speeds and compensate by larger projectile mass. One of the great advantages of the airgun is that it is very quiet compared to a firearm of similar caliber. It is also easy to make an air gun even quieter. Ammo consists of several types of pellets, configured for accuracy, penetration or blunt force. It is cheap compared to firearm ammunition. There are airgun clubs and competitions and if you spend some effort you can find a knowledgeable individual who would share his knowledge with you. If you are interested in this subject, investigate some of the online airgun forums or visit a gun shop that specializes in these weapons.   Related articles Prepper Rifles – The Right Gun For You Prepper Handguns Arms and Ammunition Prepper Shotguns Arms and Ammunition The post Stealth Weapons for Preppers – Airguns appeared first on Closet Preppers.
