Summary: Vangelis Kechriotis is Assistant to the Chair in Bogazici University Department of History. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Leiden. His research interests include late Ottoman political and cultural history, Christians and Jewish communities, nationalism, the Balkans, port-cities, imperial ideology. This lecture was presented by the Portland State University Centers for Hellenic, Middle East and Turkish Studies and the Departments of History and World Languages & Literatures.
