Summary: God works on many levels at one time. Jonah had a bitter heart and he needed to know God's forgiveness. God wants repentance so that He can pour His complete compassion and grace on us. "Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life." God knows our heart thoughts completely and we can know Him only as we bring our thoughts fully to the Light so we can know His love transcends it all.
