The Seeds of Love

Fiddle Hangout Newest 100 Songs show

Summary: The first song recorded by Cecil Sharp who went on to record thousands upon thousands of traditional songs both here in the UK and in the US. He notated this from his gardener John England. It uses flower symbolism (very old) where the violet=humility, the lily= purity, the carnation (pink) = courtesy, The red rose = guess what, Thyme= chastity and Rue = regret. I think it's it's the most beautiful of songs. I hope you like it - John.
