Summary: Despite protests and threats by the European Union's trading partners, the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU-ETS) is now a reality, and operators must comply with its requirements. "If you're doing one applicable flight to the EU a year, then you're captured by the system and must comply," said Adam Hartley, a regulatory expert with Universal Weather & Aviation, in a recent edition of the NBAA Flight Plan podcast. Many international operators were already tracking their carbon emissions for reporting and verification. Now, they must set up a carbon registry account, for trading carbon credits.
