Mining for Morals

Mines magazine show

Summary: Jessica Smith Rolston is the Hennebach Assistant Professor of Energy Policy in Liberal Arts and International Studies at the Colorado School of Mines. Her talk draws on ethnographic research about controversial mining projects in the American West and Peruvian Andes to analyze the practice of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the mining industry. Specifically, it examines the conditions under which mines, communities and employees forge workable social contracts, as well as the structural limitations of those agreements.
