Intuitive Intelligence™ Podcast with Barbara and Shannon Kelly

Blog - The Paula G Company show

Summary: In this podcast I am excited to interview mother-daughter author team Barbara and Shannon Kelly.  They recently wrote the book UNDECIDED: How to Ditch the Endless Quest for Perfect and Find the Career – and Life – That’s Right for You (Seal Press; May 2011), where they share stories from women who have been blessed by limitless choices – but find that with the more options available, the harder it is to feel satisfied. What I loved about our conversation and this book is that it clearly illustrates how many women of all ages are yearning to have this conversation.  A conversation about how to create a life and career that is authentic, satisfying, and accomplished without having to continually feel like you are "not enough". The Kelleys pull together current information from the media and the academic world to present a well-rounded picture of this phenomenon of “analysis paralysis” – the syndrome of being paralyzed by too many choices – and the angst that arises from this choice overload.  Needless to say this is right up my alley since Intuitive Intelligence™ is all about breaking through the self-torture of indecision and struggling to make the "right decision" and instead being able to make the wise decisions for you with ease. Within UNDECIDED, the Kelleys explore the reason behind women’s generational epidemic of chronic indecision, contextualizing this “problem that has no name” using research, interviews with experts, and oral histories from undecided women in their 20s through their 60s.  In my interview with the Kellys, we really dig into some of the biggest insights they learned from these interviews as well as some compelling conversations they are having with women across the country at their book readings. Here's a little bit more about the authors: Barbara Kelley teaches journalism and directs the journalism emphasis at Santa Clara University. As a freelance journalist, she has written for daily newspapers and their Sunday magazine sections as well as a variety of regional and national magazines.       Shannon Kelley is a columnist at the Santa Barbara Independent, a freelance writer and photographer, and a corporate consultant. You can learn more about them and the book at http://undecidedthebook.wordpress.com/       So, tune-in or download for a compelling conversation that really highlights the challenges, choices, and opportunities facing women in their careers from a multi-generational perspective.
