It is strange to believe there was a time when most Americans and even many Iranians were not aware of what actually unfolded in the 1953 Iranian coup d’état. After the Islamic Revolution of 1979 the Iranian revolutionaries uncovered all sorts of evidence of the CIA involvement in the coup. The story has since been made famous in various movies, documentaries and books.<br> The 1953 Iranian coup d’état is the story of the ouster of the democratically elected leader of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddeq and the installation of the man who was more friendly to the west, the Shah of Iran. The Shah ruled Iran after the 1953 coup until a home grown revolution overthrew him in 1979. He was known as a tyrant and a dictator.
