Summary: In the aftermath of the Watergate Scandal, Americans were ready for change. A relatively unknown southern governor promised honesty and decency in his campaign for the Democratic nomination. A former California governor and actor challenged the incumbant Gerald Ford, forcing the Republican nomination to the convention.
