Summary: 100 Days of Preaching the Gospel #65 | with Daniel Whyte III <br><br> SCRIPTURE -- Luke 18:9-14 <br><br> As Jesus Christ was teaching His disciples, He told this parable about the Pharisee and the publican as way to show the foolishness of people who thought that they were better than others and thought that God should see them as better than others. <br><br> In this passage, we see the very different attitudes of the Pharisee and the Publican, but in our message today we will focus mostly on the actions and thoughts of the Pharisee. In Jesus' day, the Pharisees were a religious and political party in Palestine. They were known for insisting on the minute observance of the law especially when it came to tithing and ritual purity. <br><br> The word "pharisee" means 'separated one', and the Pharisees were known for looking down on those whom they called "sinners" who showed no interest in God's law. Pharisees observed the Law carefully as far as outward appearances went, but their hearts were actually far from God. Their motives were wrong because they wanted the praise of men for their outward show of piety. By examining their attitude, we can see three types of people that God cannot save: <br><br> 1. The first type of person that God cannot save is the person who is trusting in himself. <br><br> 2. The second type of person that God cannot save is those who are self-righteous. <br><br> 3.
