Modcast #67: Erik Omen In Atlantis - Hand Held Mountain Mixtape

Modular People Modcast show

Summary: Erik Omen In Atlantis is the latest lovechild of Siberia and Mother Sky, two forward-thinking record labels committed to bending time (and minds). His self-titled debut EP is being duplicated to cassette as we speak. Yes, cassette. Because although a frustratingly inconvenient method of music consumption, it's perfectly suited to Erik's 1975 Summer Holiday Deckchair Mood. The Hand Held Mountain Mixtape, which he somehow managed to find the time to put together this week amidst his crowded schedule of mojitos, poolside meetings with industry big-wigs and quick Swiss Alps stopovers, is built around a similar aesthetic as his own material. In fact, he even slices a few of his own tunes around the un-named classics, which were either recorded in psychedelic basements in the 1970's or during the summer 2010 chillwave comedown. You can hear a bunch of Erik's songs over on the Mother Sky Soundcloud page. If you like what you hear, you can jet over to the Siberia Web Shop where you can pick up a copy of the cassette for just $5. Sure, you'll then need to fork over $50 to buy a second-hand walkman, but it's still a great Friday investment. For digital lads, there's also the option to purchase the EP (also for $5) from Erik's Bandcamp page. In celebration of the EP's release, Erik will be performing an ultra-rare DJ set tonight at Good God Small Club in Sydney, alongside Midnight Juggernauts DJs and the infamous DJ Google Maps. Doors open at 8pm and it's FREE entry all night.
