The Drive with Alan Taylor show

Summary:
Joining Alan this week is BJ Killeen, Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason. Barrett-Jackson 2023 is coming up on June 22-24th, in Las Vegas. BJ shares some of the top vehicles for the upcoming ‘World’s Greatest’ auction, the Mclaren MP4 12C, a 2023 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak, a 2021 Chevy Camaro ZL1 Hennessey Custom Edition called ‘Exorcist’, and the Challenger SRT Hell Cat ‘Black Ghost’, just to name a few. BJ also shares that Toyota will be bringing back their Land Cruiser as Volkswagen says “lebewohl” to its Arteon Sedan, with a dismal rollout of just fifteen thousand units. Ford and GM will be partnering with Tesla, so that their drivers may share Tesla’s charging stations. Don’t think Tesla owners are gonna be happy. Looks like potential problems (waiting lines?) at a charging station near you in the future.

Up next is contributor and friend Brian Moody, Executive Editor of Auto Trader.com and KBB.com. Brian talks about the average cost Americans paid for a vehicle was actually below MSRP in May. Staying on a positive note, incentives went up. Some auto makers are offering you up to a $19K discount or cash back. Brian also shares with us that the federal government recently told automakers to not comply with a Massachusetts law that requires automakers to share the telemetric data with third party repair shops so the consumer has another option. To get the full scoops and insight on a variety of topics, visit Brian’s link below.

Ed Justice Jr., Justice Brothers, Inc. President and CEO, makes a pit stop. He watched the prestigious 24-Hour Le Mans race in France, from his living room that is, and said that this was an incredible race. It was also the 75th anniversary of Porsche, the 100th anniversary of the Le Mans, and the 89th race at Le Mans. Ed shares a little history on the significance of this event. Ed also attended the Indy 500 which turned out a massive crowd. The winner could have been anyone, it was that good of a race, however Joseph Newgarden, sponsored by Shell, took the checkered flag. Good job, and great talent!

Bringing in the rear and closing out the show with Alan is long-time friend and contributor Steven Cole Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Car Coach Reports. Steven talks a bit about the Le Mans and how there was a sea of people. Corvette, Ferrari, Porsche, and even a NASCAR car built specifically for this race track help make this race incredible. That’s right, Jimmy Johnson drove the Camaro, an exhibition vehicle, until it lost its transmission. They ended up being in 39th place, but had a blast and lots of laughs.

[00:00:00] – Contributor BJ Killeen[00:06:43] – Barrett Jackson[00:13:01] – Ford, GM, and Tesla Together[00:20:51] – Contributor Brian Moody [00:29:51] – Improved Quality[00:37:23] – Oversteer[00:43:44] – Contributor Ed Justice Jr.[00:50:44] – 24 Hours Le Mans [00:56:45] – Indy 500[01:04:35] – Contributor Steven Cole Smith[01:13:36] – Garage 57[01:21:07] – Serial Number 00008

CREDITS

Host: Alan TaylorProducer: Dave MilliganCopy Editor: Colleen Mahi

Contributor: BJ Killeen Contributor: Brian MoodyContributor: Ed Justice Jr. Contributor: Steven Cole Smith

EXPLORE MORE WITH HELPFUL LINKS:

* Contributor: BJ Killeen | Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason

* Contributor: Brian Moody | Executive Editor of
