#170: Mentoring like the Master

Saving Grace show

Summary: Mentoring is a Ministry of Multiplication

Aristotle said that people don’t naturally or spontaneously grow up to be morally excellent or practically wise. They become so, if at all, only as a result of a lifelong pursuit, a through a community effort. So it takes it takes a village, a nation, and people to help do this. And so for us as Christians, we start with what we call the Great Commission, which tells us to make disciples.~ Dr. Fred Chay

According to Aristotle, we are all born with the ability to become morally good and wise, but we must learn the right habits as children and then get practical wisdom when our minds are fully developed. This is where mentoring comes into play.

The sacred part of mentoring like the Master, Jesus, is following His command to make disciples.

Most of us desire to give our lives to a significant cause that is bigger than ourselves. Well, God has given us just that–a great cause that is eternally significant. What is that cause? The church, the body of Jesus Christ, and the mission?

Mentoring like the Master

A ministry of multiplication so that we might empower people in our presence, to continue multiplying in our absence. We call it mentoring, and Christ set the example, so we might mentor with the mind of the Master.

In this episode, Dr. Fred Chay aims to help us gain insight into mentoring like the Master and see Christ’s example and what He teaches us about mentoring. Dr. Chay is a Professor of Systematic and Pastoral Theology and Academic Dean of Doctoral Studies at Grace School of Theology. In addition, he is Managing Editor of Grace Theology Press, and has also earned several degrees including a PhD from Trinity Theological Seminary and a Doctorate in Ministry from Dallas Theological Seminary.

Moreover, Dr. Chay has been in ministry for more than 40 years, that include pastoring churches in Arizona, California and Texas. Lastly, he is founder and President of Grace Line, a ministry devoted to motivating Christians toward maturity in their faith.

So, do you want to mentor like Jesus?
