He is married to Rhonda, and they have four children. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Dawson was the pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir, North Carolina for 13 years before coming to Baton Rouge. He received his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2002 from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte.
